Gijon Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Gijon

February 27, 2018 Christa Meece

This port city of about 275,000 on Spain’s north coast began 3,000 years ago as a fishing village. Today it’s a departure point for regional cruises, making it busy in summer (and making us wonder what those ancient fisherman would have thought of cruise ships). The original village, Cimadevilla, with its narrow, cobblestone streets, draws many tourists, and Cerro de Santa Catalina park at the tip of Cimadevilla’s peninsula provides great coastal views.

But the taste was good so I managed. All in all good place but a bit expensive. I will try another place next time in gijon

I took my parents for lunch to La Tabla on our recent visit to Gijon and this restaurant didn't disappoint. Location is outstanding, great views of the countryside, slightly out of the city centre, 10 minute journey in a taxi. The waiters are really welcoming and attentive without being too pushy. Food was brilliant. Being from Gijon and being used to the type of food, bars and restaurants have to offer, I'm so proud to see a restaurant like this one in our city. Presentation, attention to detail, creativity, everything was there. Absolutely wonderful. If I lived in Gijon this would be my regular restaurant. We had a good selection of wine at a very reasonable price. I can't wait to go back to Gijon and to visit this restaurant again. Thank you for a fantastic lunch.

One of the better upscale restaurants in the Gijon area. Located among rolling hills with pristine views while dining in the enclosed patio. Service and seafood were top notch. We enjoyed their "esparragos rellenos" (stuffed asparagus), "Merluza a los nogales" (hake-house specialty), "Pixin Almejas" (monkfish with clams), and lobster.
Good wines can be had for 15/16 euros per bottle.
Portions were of decent size. The check totaled 200 euros (for four adults).
Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

Smoked sardine with a celeriac ice cream, tender and juicy rack of lamb and a raspberry sorbet (and bits) were all very fine indeed. The family also enjoyed theirs with the marinated 'bonito' with frozen gazpacho being a standout. Not cheap, but not exorbitant either. (Healthy wine list too)

As de Picas

This restaurant was attached to the same building as our hotel and seemed a handy choice as it boasted a 16 menu in the evening. It actually is part of the Casino complex. You traverse a busy bar to access the restaurant which does not start serving dinner until 21:15. Our first visit we had the most exquisite skate I have ever had. Small portions a little bit 'nouveau cuisine' but amazingly tasty & fresh. Sadly this represented the high point. The restaurant acually only does the 16 euro menu on 2 evenings as it is closed on Mondays & tuesdays and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays turns to a 25 euro menu. We paid one further visit on the friday night again choosing the menu. We had a steak dish which whilst tender and tasty was cold by the time we got it. It was served with a handful of chips and absolutely nothing else!. Unless you ask in advance the Spanish always seem to serve hot food on stone cold plates which for me is tantamount to ruining the meal. The service is pleasant but sluggish and I would only recommend this place on a Wednesday & Thursday when you will get good value. I think the chefs here have a greater opinion of thier skills that is evidenced at the table. The plate was unattractive to look at, unimaginative and luke warm, which is a shame because I believe the quality of the ingredients was high.

After looking up Gijons restaurants with tripadvisor based on our location limited by foot after shopping, we headed for Parrilla La Costa looking for a beer and traditional Spanish food.
With tables outside or inside always a good option, we found the busy restaurant a good find serving fresh salads, delicious meats and fish with friendly service.
I particularly liked the sizzling serving plate the Beef ribs were served on.
