If you like substandard food and awful service then this is the place for you. In a country famous for its food you would hope a restaurant that specialises in Troyesenne dishes would be amazing, Le Tablier is the opposite of that. Service first of all was chaotic and bordering on non existent. We were seated but not given any menus or water glasses. No one asked if the food was good or if we wanted anything else. There seemed to be no rhyme nor reason to the orders as the waiting staff wandered around aimlessly to find the diners the dishes belonged to. Many other customers were aggrieved by this as we had to resort to flagging our own dinner down. The food was either grim, shocking value or both. First up we’re the ‘pilons de volailles’ or chicken drumsticks to the uninitiated. For 9 euros you got two skinny drumsticks with some burned breading on top of it. After a half hour wait...Mains were with us after 45 minutes. Beef brisket was passable but the 18 euro roast piglet was three quarters fat and a real insult to the poor animal. Appreciate it’s tourist season and the restaurant was busy but it’s really no excuse for inedible food and careless service. Avoid and go over the road to Tout Simplement.Good morning feldy1983,We are deeply sorry for the bad time you seemed to had. It must have been what we can call a bad day, and we are doing what it takes to avoid a second one. We apologize. We will be honored to see you someday. To improve your impression and discover our new menu. Hope you enjoyed you journey in Troyes.Have a good day. MERCI, LE TABLIER

Brasserie de la Paix Troyes

Reviewed By Mr_Meldrew

Having toured the local streets looking for places to eat, French, and having previously had a look at Trip Advisor we decided on Brasserie de la Paix Troyes in that it looked as if it might provide what we were looking for. The chalk menu helped. We were somewhat put off by the fact it appeared empty but decided to proceed none the less. We were immediately asked if we would like to eat on the rear terrace, yes, we said, and were shown to the charming area at the rear. The service was good but we have come to the conclusion that service in that area of France is not perhaps as welcoming and effusive as we might expect. However, having chosen a bottle of wine I was told it was "sold out", I chose another but the waiter returned with what was exactly what I had wanted in the first place. Read that how you like I saw it as a plus point! Neither my wife nor I can remember what we ordered as starters but clearly nothing to complain about. We both ordered turkey breast in a mushroom sauce and it was excellent. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I have to say the surroundings added to it.

La Barge

Just what it says, a barge moored in the old disused dock overlooking Troyes. Great place for a sundowner and at food reasonable prices also available. Unique atmosphere. It can get very busy and then the service suffers. Wine expensive by the glass (For some reason, it comes in ridiculous small tasting glasses and 100cl units). As an alternative, try the refreshing “Penforth” blond beer.

AU BISTRO

We discovered this jewel of a bistro while travelling to Troyes often for business. Its atmosphere is modern, with citrus colors, newspaper-covered columns and photos of different performing artists on the wall. The staff is friendly, attentive and even recognized us on our second visit, which is always appreciated. The menu is varied, with daily specials and a lunch formula for rapid dining. I recommend the accra dish to share while waiting for your meal. I have tried the steak, the carpaccio and the fish and all were delicious. I want to return to try the hamburger which looks like a popular choice from what I saw around me. Be sure to reserve as it is a poplular spot. They have entertainment in the evenings with live music of different sorts but we have only been there during lunch. Another excellent point: they are open on Mondays!

The food was very good, large potions, and well presented. We had the salad champagnoise, which included snails and lardons, huge serving and very filling. Also tried the Coq au vin, again a huge serving, really too much, but very nice. The risotto was really good. We just couldn't handle dessert after the other courses. Service was friendly and we had a nice night. Total bill including a bottle of Bourgogne red was about 80 eu.
