It’s so rare in small towns to find places that can accommodate vegans. Their veggie sandwich was fresh and delicious. They also have a really great selection of natural foods in their grocery and a nice little patio. Was perfect after our long drive in from Dallas.

Blue Mountain Bistro

Had a delightful evening in this terrific restaurant that is very much bistro like. Went with friends and sat at the bar to watch the game (not the outcome we wanted) but having Ryan the bartender tend to all our needs made it less painful. The ceviche and Gouda fries were outstanding. A great place in a town with a lot of neat things to do.

We are temporarily closed for the winter months. We will reopen in February, date to be determined. Thank you for another year!!

Order your ice cream in the caboose and walk down stairs behind the caboose for a sitting area. The scoops are fairly large. I was disappointed they were out of. Anika to make my shake with but with a major cycling event in town, I think there were more visitors than locals, so things emptied out pretty fast. Open Wednesday-sunday

The Black Bear

Reviewed By Joan W - Green Valley, Arizona

I stayed at Indian Lodge and planned to eat here for breakfast before taking the scenic drive to watch the sunrise. In past years I have enjoyed eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. This year they will not be open for dinner and only open for breakfast and lunch Wednesday-Sunday. So that I would be able to see the sunrise from atop the mountain at the scenic overlook, I arrived promptly at 7:00 AM but unfortunately the waitress did not and the door was locked. She arrived shortly and I was the first and only guest. I promptly ordered the combo-two eggs, choice of meat, potatoes and toast. It took a while but finally the meal arrived. The "toast" was like it was just taken out of bag and had never seen a toaster. The waitress apparently either did not notice or did not care when she set the food in front of me. When I complained she quickly left promising to bring more toast.. When I tried the eggs and potatoes they were ice cold. The bacon was the only thing marginally warm. The waitress and cook both came over and agreed the breakfast was not acceptable. The cook started all over as I watched the sunrise from the restaurant, not from scenic mountain top overlook as I had planned. Once my second meal arrived I never saw the waitress again and I had to track her down to get a bill. No adjustment was made. I have eaten here many times over the years as the view is wonderful and in the past so was the food. I felt I had not only wasted my time eating here this time, but also wasted nearly $10 for a less than acceptable experience.

One of the few places I've had to order food at the counter and have delivered to the table by unsmiling servers that I really appreciated. I was at first disappointed with the appearance of the dining area and self serve bar, but after getting the meal and tasting it, I was very pleased. The eggs, refried beans, hashbrowns, and pancake was more than I could eat and some of the best I've eaten.

We ate at Cueva de Leon the first time recently, but I'm sure it won't be the last time. You won't find any trendy, fusion food here...this is good, tasty, basic Mexican food, thank goodness. The place is clean, the service is cheerful, and the food is hot, plentiful and tasty. You're going to love it.

I don’t generally expect a lot from cafes at tourist sites, but I was pleasantly surprised this time. The quality and choices available here were much better than I would have expected. I had a brisket Reuben, and my wife had a brisket quesadilla, and we also opted for cookies for dessert. When my wife asked for a slice of avocado to go with her quesadilla, staff were very accommodating and didn’t even charge us for this extra! We both enjoyed what we had, and would definitely recommend this small cafe, which probably has six to eight tables total.

The Porch

Fort Davis's only coffee house serving espresso, lattes, tea, house baked pastries, quiche, panninis. Light breakfast served Thursday - Friday. Buffet breakfast on the weekends from 7:30 to 10:00 am. Lunch options include a variety of panninis, salads, house made soups, quiche and desserts.

Since the Drug Store was closed on Saturday morning we went to the Porch for breakfast. Mistake.
Overpriced breakfast buffet. No tea! (in a breakfast place!) No silverware. No coffee creamers - even when my wife inquired of the staff in Spanish. Poor value and poor service.
Thank goodness the bacon was good.
