We asked for a menu - there isn't one. The waitress was having a fag outside when we arrived and reeked of tobacco. No idea how this place makes a profit, no menu, no suggestions for food (assuming there was some), no food on display just a few unappetising looking cakes, the weirdest cafe we have ever been in. Dark and depressing. What a shame because we wanted food and would have been open to suggestions, but clearly the waitress couldn't be bothered with something like customer service.First of all thank you for your time to review Sabores de Portugal.Unfortunately we do not serve food all the time that is why currently we do not have a menu. When we serve, you will be seeing the advertisements about it and you will be informed about the food of the day. All our cakes typically Portuguese cakes, I understand if you are not familiar with them.I hope you consider to visit the place when our chef is on the house as well, we believe all your negative thoughts are going to disappear.Also you can always call us to discuss what kind of food you would like to have and/or our chef can suggest the best food from Portugal depends on what you like most.Thank you

i arrived 45 minutes before a performance for food.I was surprised at the excellent choice. The seating area on the ground floor was almost full - that indicates a very popular place.I chose hot food that arrived within 10 minutes. The soup which was thick and tasty arrived with a thick slice of freshly baked bread and butter.A good start to the evening.

This place would never have come up on my radar had I not won a free Sunday lunch for two in a recent raffle. I must say that the excellent, friendly service was matched only by the quality of the food. The arancini, roast pork and bread and butter pudding were all sublime and thoroughly enjoyed in very pleasant surroundings. And my wife and I are already planning a return visit in the near future - Thanks to all the staff at the Castle House for making our visit so enjoyable!

It was a busy Friday night and with the hard surfaces and tables fairly close together, the noise levels were pretty hard to take. At first we were seated at a downstairs table, which was part of the problem, as the sound just seemed to reverberate round the walls. Once they found us a table near the window on the ground floor, things improved. Not only were we not so close to other diners, but the service was better as we were within the line of sight of the staff. The food was fresh and attractive with plenty of vegetable dishes and salads as well as steak and burgers. I'd return but not at a busy time.

Visited here this evening (Saturday) with my husband. We hadn't booked a table but luckily there was one free. We didn't have starters. My main course was delicious (free range chicken with egg, feta cheese and mashed potato with puréed pea and broccoli). Not a huge portion. Focus is on quality not quantity and it definitely didn't disappoint. There was enough to satisfy the average appetite and meant we could manage a sweet. I had the White Chocolate Blondie which I would highly recommend. A base which was amazing, a cross between a biscuit and a cake in texture, topped with whipped cream cheese with smashed strawberries in. Fresh strawberries on the side and strawberry purée. My husband had Halloumi superfood salad and the cheeseboard, all of which he thoroughly enjoyed and would happily eat again. It's not cheap at an average cost of £13 for a main course and £7.50 for a sweet, but in my opinion the quality of the ingredients and the expert preparation makes it worth every penny. We will definitely go again. Thank you so much to Kate for looking after us so well.

Lovely meal from the fixed price evening menu. Mackerel pate starter and the smoked salmon, leek and potato main were both delicious but the peach melba roulade was absolutely devine. Very friendly staff. Great meal. A litlle larger portion of the main would have earned the full 5 stars!!

The most exciting food weâve tasted in Hereford. Swav and Beth seem to have put their hearts and souls into every beautiful dish, and Beth provides an impeccable front-of-house service. Just stunning. âMadamâ Bethâs choice of wines were excellent and at a great price. If this restaurant were located in London youâd never get a seat, and with a chef who is influenced by world class Noma, you get the impression that this is just the start for Madam & Adamâs adventure. Simply wonderful. Weâll be back.
