We opted for the highly-recommended 6-course option for a birthday lunch and were NOT disappointed. The food was both interesting and delicious, served by knowledgable friendly staff with a well judged pace. The whole meal was exceptional value for money considering the extremely high quality and professional attention to detail. Wine was also very good (albeit expensive as always) and every plate was virtually licked clean. Verveine was an excellent discovery to which we shall undoubtedly return - and soon!

We looked this place up as we love seafood , but things went rapidly wrong. We thought we would have a medley of starters with fries. So we chose the tempura prawns, whitebait and the herb crusted halloumi. So so disappointing!! All was from the freezer and deep fried, dripping and with fat. If we wanted that we could have gone to Iceland. We could not eat the whitebait and when I mentioned this to the waitress, she was rude. " oh we have never had a complaint befor". I am a qualified chef and am not easy to please, but this was just lazy and stupid. As I said, can not say re main courses. But why do frozen crap starters??? Not! Recommended.Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns to the world that we thought were dealt with adequately and civilly at the time. At the time of your meal you only complained about the whitebait, the rest of your plates were cleared of food and not complained about. The white bait was then removed from your bill. I don’t think there is a pub in the world which sells unfrozen whitebait, as a chef you would probably know that, like 99% of non chefs do as well. I’m not sure how else you could tempura batter a fresh king prawn without deep frying it either? The halloumi is fresh made and yes deep fried. ‘Dripping in fat’ is subjective, much like describing battered king prawns, whitebait and halloumi as a seafood dinner. I do hope you try us again for the other 15 or so fresh fish specials on the black board most days. Regard, David

Recommended to us by locals and we were not disappointed. Easy to find, easy to park (free) and easy to enjoy with such good food and service. We pre-booked a window table for 6 which proved sensible even for the first day of October as the restaurant was quite busy. Ringwood bitter (£4.10/pint) was well kept and full of hops. Some of our party opted for the sandwiches (all priced at (£10 with chips) with crayfish and marie rose sauce very popular. More adventurous chose Mussels with garlic cream sauce (£12.50 for starter size and no chips) were sensational. Large plump flesh, perfectly cooked so still sweet and moist with a delicate cream sauce served with crusty white bread. Outstanding dish!!

Our annual holiday to the New Forest usually includes at least one fish and chips takeaway from Deep Blue, despite their high prices. I don't know what's changed there, but we were disappointed with unevenly cut and cooked chips, and rather a poor piece of fish. This was not good value, and we won't risk it again.
