Ypres Castle Inn

A 17th century inn on the steps down from Rye's castle, after which it was named. The biggest beer garden in Rye. Great food. The best beer selection in town.

The Ypres Caste Inn, nothing to do with the great war, is a warm and cosy eatery and drinkery with a large log fire. We ate there twice and had cold salmon sala, seafood pasta, sticky toffee cake, crab cakes, tomato and peeper soup, and cod and chips twice. There was nothing fancy, but I rate myself as a good home cook, and each meal did not disappoint. I also observed a beautifully cooked steak on another table.Prices are reasonable, the service is excellent. Beer was well kept and the house Cotes de Gascogne was tasty. The chef is going places

I booked in 29 friends and family for Sunday lunch for a special birthday. Madeleine was brilliant in taking all our orders beforehand. With her experience of such occasions, she helped by making sure I put a name by each order so her staff knew who was due to have what. Inevitably we’d all forgotten what we’d ordered. Her staff were so patient with all of us and we had a great time. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Thank you so much for choosing us to help your celebrate a special birthday! We very much enjoyed you and your guest's visit to us. We very much appreciate your comments on our staff service and also for the recommendation. Have a lovely year and hope to see you again.

Booked on a Saturday, after a relative recommended the tapas. Even with the online menu and menus outside, sadly there was no tapas available other than some standard starter items. Chef problems? Available fixed menu was delicious though, with excellent service.Four stars because of the tapas issue, five for the food served.

Rye Waterworks Micropub

If you like your beer the way it's meant to be, un-doctored with gas and not with all the flavour removed by chilling, then The Waterworks is a must. True to the traditions of The Micropub movement, there is no juke box, no pool table, no fancy food, just proper beer, cider, some gin and good old fashion conversation

Dungeness crab devilled potted as starter and the Romney Marsh lamb rump on a celeriac parmentier fine crunchy vegetables with radishes. All topped off with exquisite sticky toffee pudding absolutely quintessential English meal with flare! Great bar and table service - they earned their recommendation

We are a burger restaurant in Rye serving beef and potatoes from our own farm, just four miles away. We also serve awesome Aussie import the FreakShake. These babies have to be seen (and sampled) to be believed! No bookings.

Visited with my wife recently on a rainy evening. The service was good and the menu looked varied. I had the steak and fries with was cooked perfectly. My wife had the sliders which were ok but nothing special. Everything was as expected but we did notice that it could do with a bit of a dust. The copper kettle in the fireplace and other ornaments were not that clean, this is a restaurant and it reflects on the overall hygiene of the premises. Many thanks for your feedback, we do however clean on a daily basis however the old chimney breast creates a lot of dust. Do come back and see us again sometime!

The Horse & Cart Inn

The Horse & Cart Inn is a Grade II listed dog-friendly pub in the village of Peasmarsh, 3 miles from Rye. It has four B&B rooms, a beer garden and off street parking.

This was an accidental find on the way back from shopping. It appeared totally incomprehensible that the pub was virtually empty when we arrived. The menu was quite limited but it looked to meet our requirements. The food when it arrived was piping hot and my meal was a good sized portion. My elderly mother had a small fish and chips which was plenty for her appetite. I don't think there was any frozen veg here. The veg was cooked perfectly and the pie of the day had an excellent steak and mushroom filling and the pastry very good. This was certainlly one of the best pub meals I have had in a long long time.

An early dinner watching the sun set from the front terrace, unbeatable spot. Unfortunately the food didn't match the view! We ordered a burger and a steak, the burger was ok, covered in a very sweet sauce and the 'wrap' doesn't really work. The steak was full of gristle and on the tough side, perhaps just unlucky but at £24.99 we expected something special. That said, we would definitely return for a drink and possibly a sandwich just for the view (garden at the back looks great too).Dear magnoliasundayThank you for your review. We apologise that you were not satisfied with your meal on this occasion. We pride ourselves on our food and would have been happy to try to rectify the situation if you had made us aware at the time. We do hope you will return so that we can ensure you have a better experience. Kindest regards The Ferry Team
