While visiting Davao, Philippines the week of 9/8/2019 through 9/14/2019, we made a decision to dine out at a restaurant that we drove by on Tuesday, 9/10/2019 and ate at on Wednesday Evening, 9/11/2019. They feature live blue crabs, fish, shrimp, mussels and a variety of other seafoods available to consume. The host covered our table in plastic and placed plastic gloves over our hands. We chose a blue crab (live of course) with tiger shrimp and mussels (which was much more than we could ever expect to see or eat). In conjunction with that, I had a Bread Bowl with seafood in a broth. I drank Spring Water in a bottle (as this is what I usually drink), whereas with my wife, she drank a Watermelon Smoothie.

I visited this restaurant based on Trip Advisors rave reviews from previous guests. The place was empty when I entered except for two tables and service was quick, but then the waitress never reappeared. I placed a single serving order of the barbecue rib, which also came with a large portion of sticky white rice and about a tablespoon of corn. I also ordered lumpia as an appetizer. If not for the rice and lumpia, I probably would have left this establishment hungry. The presentation was nice. The rib looked large on the plate but once I started cutting, I quickly realized that over half the portion was nothing but fat. Maybe other menu selections would have been better choices, but this rib was a very poor quality meat in my opinion. I can't in good consciousness recommend the ribs, but the lumpia was perfect.

Nice place for crab-crazed folks. However, they do not offer discounts for kids, or even a menu for them--You pay the same rate. So it's not practical if you bring a group with several kids, the kids won't enjoy it and the price isn't worth it.

After eating at Penong's, the portions here are much larger. Blue Carabao serves food in an ala carte manner, you walk right up, and choose what you want to eat. The main gripe is that we arrived just before noon, and the food we had were all either cold, or we could tell that they have been left out in the open for some time - call me picky, but expected better after all the good reviews. Other than that, we ordered 2 fish dishes, 1 squid dish and 1 beef dish, topped it up with 2 buco (coconut) drinks, and it cost us 400php - quite good value.One suggestion I can make is - find some way to keep your food warm!Hello,thanx for taking the time to write your review of our restaurant. My wife is the head cook,i am from Canada and appreciate what you say about the temperature of the food. We strive to give people as close as we can to the real taste of Filipino food,food that the masses consume,Most times the temperature that you got your food served to you,is the temperature common in most eateries and Carinderia. You see, it would add a large cost to the food to keep it at a certain temperature,a cost that if passed on to the customer,would be the end of a huge percentage of customer base. We follow food safety standards of the Philippines which requires that we reheat all cooked food after being set out for sale after four hours,we do it after three hours. To be honest,we rarely have to reheat because the pan of food does not last three hours. For all customers who wish to have their meals hot,we offer to put in our microwave for a couple of minutes. You may be interested to know that we are one of the few restaurants in Davao,in Mindanao, that has a certificate from Servsafe with the inspector being from Seattle,Washington,USA. We invite you back to the Blue Carabao Diner and invite you into our kitchen to inspect it for yourself,check our log book for when meals come onto the serving table which customers may view at anytime. We strive to provide the safest,best tasting,most affordable Filipino styled food in Davao for all the people of Davao and our foreign visitors. We encourage all potential customers to read the description of the Blue Carabao Diner along with pictures showing the way food is served because it is not for everyone.
