We visited Darling on 8 January. The Chicory Cheese Hotel looked attractive. We felt like coffee. We were showed to a quaint tea garden outside. That is where service ended. We sat in the corner forever. We decided to leave. We were ushered out with...MoreI am so sorry about the bad experience you had at Chicory Cheese Cafe. There is absolutely no excuse for this. I would love it if you could pop me a email at [email protected] . Hope you will give us another go one day. Carien

This time we were seated outside the restaurant in glorious Sunshine but shaded by beautiful trees.....we both went for steaks and they were perfectly prepared with good quality ingredients and appropriate accomplishments...delicious...if I have an issue it is with the cost of the wine from the wine estate on which this restaurant is sited....considerably more than the tasting room and none available by the glass...otherwise still wholeheartedly recommended.

Bistro on 7

Darling is quite definitely the porky center of South Africa and Wednesday nites is Eisbein 2 for 1 at the Bistro. And the restaurant definitely had a smell of pork about it. But the owner/chef was simply charming did what they could to make us comfortable as we definitely are not lovers of pork. We had a nice meal, well prepared and served and were happy to meet the owner/chef. Don't let our feeling about pork put anyone off - in fact the Eisbein 2 for 1 on Weds is a MUST if you are in Darling.

This place is certainly worth a visit and not just if you are an Evita fan. The gift shop was extensive, with all kinds of South African made and related goodies, the coffee shop and restaurant was great for coffee and cake and was buzzing with activity on the day we went. Lots of spots in which to take photographs! There is a theatre here too with regular shows. A fun place to visit if you are in Darling.

The Flying Pig eXpress

The Flying Pig is about 3 things - coffee, charcuterie and locally sourced deli products. Proprietors Gil and Aleks Ferreira are also the owners of The Flying Pig CureSmiths, producing artisanal cured meats, ranging from salami, parma style hams, cooked hams, fresh sausages and bacon jam. The CureSmith, or charcuterie, is also situated on the premises, and visitors can see directly into the bespoke curing chamber to view how the curing process takes place. Much of the produce in the Deli at The Flying Pig is also locally sourced - so much so that The Flying Pig has become known as the 'Darling Deli." From cheese, exotic mushrooms, pomegranate ice lollies, reductions, nougat, Turkish delight, farm style preserves, interesting toffees (like Darling Sweet toffees) and rusks to so much more! The coffee, known as The Flying Pig blend, is also close to their heart and is produced by local west coast Wings Coffee Roasters. The establishment of The Flying Pig is the marriage of all these wonderful products with Charcuterie at its heart! Come and enjoy wonderful fare in a lovely garden setting, right in the heart of wonderful Darling - and finish off your meal with arguably the best coffee in the Swartland! Gil and Aleks Ferreira look forward to receiving you!

This farm stall boasts a coffee shop, general farmstall, wine shop and petrol station with toilets. It sounded fabulous in the all the reviews I had read which suggested one could get and taste the wines from the area. While the wine shop is well stocked with the wines from the area, the wines are pricey, and there is no tasting room facility. The farm stall had some intersting food offerings which include bokkems- dried fish. Worth a stop.
