Hotel, Restaurant Garden & SPA

Outstanding in every way. We were seated for drinks in their beautiful garden while we waited for our table. There were wandering peacocks and macaws. Food, drinks, atmosphere and service were all excellent. My wife had eaten here before and independent of her recommendation, I’ve heard about the hotel as “the” hotel in Cuernavaca. Very pleasant afternoon and well worth the drive from Mexico City. Make reservations; it’s popular.

One of the classic restaurants in Cuernavaca. The food is great, their specialty are meat cuts (I rather enjoy the "Bife de Lomo"), althought salads are also great.

This restaurant is located in the Hotel Rio 1300. I'd heard from some guests that the food isn't good (and they were eating for free - Mexican police academy cadets staying at the hotel). Nevertheless, it was convenient for me to grab a bite there before checking out. Here are my thoughts:
PROs:
-the wait staff was attentive
- the table overlooked the beautiful pool
- there was a lovely breeze wafting across the balcony, as well as through the restaurant
-I was offered a comment card I'm which to evaluate them, which I completed
CONs:
-The food is ridiculously overpriced. Ridiculously. 450 pesos for a steak? That's $40. In Mexico.
-Just about every entree on the menu was over 250 pesos. Most averaged 300 to 350. For items that were ordinary, not exotic, such as an omelet. Please.
-I wanted to eat light before traveling, so I chose the caramel crepe. It wasn't available and nothing else appealed to me. They brought me chocolate cake with caramel drizzled on it. Ugh.
-I'm not a fan of tres leches cake (it's that wet cake, soaked in a kind of milk), and this cake was a combination wet (tres leches) and dry (stale) cake. For $6.
-They do not let you add the bill to your hotel bill, but they do accept visas.
-I was asked for a tip up front as they took my card.
- I was charged the price of the crepe I did not receive, instead of the lower price of the cake which was substituted
- they charged me for the tutis (a small cheese-filled pastry) that they brought out before I ordered. I thought if I don't ask for it, it's complementary...Guess not. It was only 19 pesos, which is about a dollar. It's just the principle. They're probably one of the most overpriced restaurants in the city, yet they're going to nickel-and-dime the guests for an unsolicited pastry?
Basically, if you don't mind mediocre food at astronomical prices (for Mexico), by all means, eat here. But with so many other options of both American and Mexican style food, why would you?

The restaurant, is inside the remains of Hacienda de Cortes, which is a beautiful colonial building that foreigners simply LOVE. The food is typical mexican, as expected. The Avocado Soup and Chicken with Mole are my favourites.
This is one of my favorite places to visit in Cuernavaca, when I travel here.

The Madrigal is located in the heart of one of the best areas of the city. We have the ideal combination of architecture, art, Gardens, gastronomy and service thanks to the experience of more than 60 years in the international restaurant medium. You can feel calm and relaxed in any of our spacious spaces such as the terraces and rooms around the garden or in one of the different dining rooms. Each area has details that make them unique and special. The atmosphere is totally familiar, you can enjoy as a couple and you can also close some important business. This is considered a high-end establishment, but you really want something extra special when you're paying exorbitant prices, and this didn't fit the bill. Portions were small -- i could count that i received exactly 8 stringbeans -- and though fairly tasty, nothing out of the ordinary. Service was professional, not too stuffy, but i had to ask three times just to get a lemon to put in my water.
