Once a frontier mining town, Durango draws thousands of tourists year-round for the myriad outdoor recreational activities and scenic beauty. Mountain bikers, rafters, kayakers, horseback riders, rock climbers, hikers, campers, hunters and fishermen are drawn to the two-million acre San Juan National Forest and to the San Juan mountains, the largest range in the Rockies. But the city's biggest tourist draw is a nine-hour historic train ride in a vintage steam locomotive. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which hauled precious metals in the 1880s, now takes tourists for a 47-mile, open-air journey through mountains and forests and past abandoned mines to historic Silverton and back. Children and train buffs will relish the chance to climb into a locomotive and pore over railroad memorabilia at the railroad's museum. Skiers flock to the Durango Mountain Resort in winter, which also offers hiking, fishing, rafting and horseback riding in warmer months. Slow down your pace with a stroll past splendidly restored Victorian buildings in historic Downtown Durango and wind up a very active weekend in a local brewpub or saloon.

Had the Vinny Pizzaroni - the ultimate pizza! Delicious with a tasty crust, lots of sauce, cheese, meats and seasonings. We got a corner table and had fun chatting with friends, people watching, and enjoying the pizza and beer. The bartender provided excellent service and gave good advice on beer offerings. Definitely will be back!

You can choose the type of food you want and sit at tables either outside or inside. The real benefits are that your party can choose different options - Asian, Pizza, Burgers, Sushi and a bar too - and you can all sit together for the meal. There is music and a lovely array of artefacts around the place too. We loved it.

Good location on main street. Very busy with locals and tourists. Food is very average though! Place is very popular for their burgers but I find them to be very over cooked and dry. Had the "old school" chicken wings last time in. They are a cajun style dry rub. Found the wings to be VERY OVER cooked and dry. Seasoning was VERY spicy hot. Would not order them again. Would go in for a very average burger and cold beer.

We stopped by here and had lunch on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. We ordered a burger and fries on the recommendation of a friend. It was a good suggestion because the burger was great —second only to the frites. They were awesome. Service was very good.Thank you so much for patronizing our restaurant and taking time to write a review. Our burger is our #1 selling menu item so I am glad it lived up to your expectations!

We tried the Animas Brewing Company thinking they were on the river. They do not have a river view. Very limited seating. The menu selection is very limited. The portions were small for the price and our special (rib tips) was served partially cold. We had to ask to get ice in our glasses of water. Wait staff was friendly. Possibly a good place just to grab a beer, but there are much better dining options in Durango for a full meal.

Ska Brewing

"It takes characters to brew beer with character." Brewing in Durango, Colorado since 1995. We call it a tasting room because that's what you'll want to do here. Flagships, seasonals and unique beers that only a few ever get to try-they're all on tap here

We chose SKA because we had our dog with us, and it looked inviting and accommodating. We sat outside on a beautiful day, had a few beers and got some food. The beer was okay (we had the Modus Mandarina) - was expecting it to be smoother, but had a bit of a bite in it, which my wife didn't like. The food, however, was really good from The Container - nicely cooked burger with homemade chips and a Marguerite Pizza. Both were worth the visit, and our pup enjoyed the handouts, too! Thanks for the review, Gerry. We’re glad you all enjoyed the outdoor space and your food. We can’t wait to have you back again!

after quite a long wait we got seated. the atmosphere is happy and the service friendly and generous, the local beer i tried (lager) was ok and the burger was a bit better than average. the prices are fair and all in all its an ok place, no more than that.Happy, friendly, generous, above average burgers, fair prices. That sounds like a 5 star home run :)Its funny you mentioned the Lager because 11 days ago we won the bronze medal at the GABF for that exact beer and they are tough judges. From the Durango Herald 10/7/2019:Carver Brewing Co.’s Lightner Creek Lager won the bronze medal in the light lager category at the Great American Beer Festival on Saturday in Denver.About 90 beers were entered in the category this year. Lightner Creek Lager previously won silver in the category in 2016.We pride ourselves on being everything you described and thanks for the review.Jim Carver

Having spent the day on the train up to Silverton and back we thought we would like to eat somewhere that was quick and simple.Derailed was certainly that. The restaurant is primarily a cocktail bar/pub which doesn't take bookings and has a a reasonablely extensive small plates type of menu. Along one wall is the full bar with high stools and the rest of the seating is an eclectic mix of sofas & airchairs, high tables and stools and benches. There are a number of large TV screen screens either showing music videos or sports. We ordered a bottle of wine and then a number of small plates. We had the potstickers which were by far the best dish, a fklatbread which was OK but which too much dressing onb it, the chicken tenders which were dried out from being overcooked, the caesar salad which was fine and finally the Cuban sandwich with fries which was one dish too many. The portions were generous and the service was excellent being friendly and efficient. The meal filled the gap but the quality of the food was just so-so (except for the potstickers)
