The BULL SHACK

So, I place a lot of reviews on travel advisor, I believe in being fair, constant, and consistent in my reviews. I do travel a great deal, and I must say that this place for coffee is by far the best around!! A small little out of the way place that I was oblivious to. I was recently staying at the Holiday Inn Express, and unknown to me was a little "shack" across the way. One day, in my fervor for a "good cup" of coffee I asked the front desk if there was any REAL COFFEE SHOPS. The lady at the desk chuckled and pointed across the street. I stopped in, and gave the barrista the choice to surprise me. All I can say is WOW!!!
Plus, I actually got to meet with Sammy the Bull, the owner. Not the mafia guy, but this guy has the heart . I can say this, I will be back every morning!! Love it here!!

Joe's Italian Grill and Restaurant

Wandering in after a day afield for historical research, we were greeted-seated and given refreshments quickly. The menu, though not overly large, had sufficient and varied choices so that our selections required more than a moments thought.
As for the food; Oh MY! Very GOOD and of sufficient quantity as to require boxes to bring more than half home with us.

Having become of fan of the Joe's in Livingston, I was anxious to sample the bill of fair in Coldspring. WOW!
JUST WOW!
There is no appreciable quality difference in the FLAGSHIP and the Newest location!
AND.....
I hear that a new location in Cleveland, Texas is coming?! YAY!

Places, Plates and Pillows
My aunt was here from Michigan and likes road trips to small towns and interesting sites. We saw Coldspring, Texas on Facebook with some interesting pictures and thought we would take a road trip there. While we were there we stopped for lunch at this restaurant I saw on Trip Advisor called the Paradise Grille. It was a local place to eat and try out the menu. The first thing you are asked as you enter is smoking or none smoking! Wasn't really crazy because it's a open area divided only by a salad bar. So be warned! The service was great and very friendly. I got the seafood combo, which was grilled catfish and 4 grilled shrimp with 3 hush puppies and homemade onion rings. It was great! My Aunt got the same but fried and she loved it. My wife got a Rubin on marble rye, she said it was great too. My Aunt tried the Buttermilk pecan pie, wasn't impressed. Crust was over cooked and not a lot of flavor. All in all not a bad little place to stop and check out on your day trip. So if your in the Livingston, Texas area and want a little road trip, check this place out!

This is a local hangout and housed in an old building complete with creaky wooden floors, a high bar and high wooden ceilings. Lots of antique-y memorabilia on the walls. Service is friendly, food good, tasty lemonade and root beer and we were surprised to see a full bar as well. (No ice cream though. sigh.)

Taco Bar

Reviewed By bureaucrat377 - Coldspring, Texas

I loved this. Place when it was in its old location. The staff and food were both awesome. Now they have moved-just about seven doors, counter-clockwise around the square. You can see the new location from the old location. The new restaurant has a full kitchen, so they can expand the menu a little. The new place also has more tables and seating for about thirty people in the dining room. There are a couple of additional tables outside as well.
Now they are called "Taco Express" and they are open for dinner too. In the evening they stay open until 8PM.
By far the best Mexican food in Coldspring.

There weren't many diners when we went to El Taquito in Coldspring. Service was OK. My wife had the enchilada dinner and I had the chili relleno dinner. My wife wasn't impressed with her meal, but my chili relleno was excellent. This isn't the greatest restaurant, but the food was good.

This is a very good donut shop. It's bot your chain shop offering mass produced products. This shop also offers sausage/egg biscuits and croissants & pigs-in-a-blanket. The food is good and the service average. The apple fritters are out of sight. They are fresh and light. Not the heavy, doughy offerings at most shops. This is a great place to stop for a quick breakfast.

Food turned out good but simple order was messed up, Place was not too busy but staff looked disorganized and I'm not sure if a manager was on duty. Ordered two different grilled chicken sandwiches to go, one grilled chicken avocado bacon and one grilled chicken bacon ranch. One came out fine and the other was missing bacon, cheese and ranch dressing. Basically the same sandwich but one has avocado and one ranch. They fixed it when I came back. Only other thing is sandwiches say with cheese and they put shredded cheese.

Grilled chicken was good and rolls were fresh so turned out fine and reasonably priced. Hopefully they get a little more organized. Also A/C not working very good or at all so place was very warm especially restrooms and waitresses were feeling the heat. Nice outside area but we took our food to go.
