Amazing for wildlife

The staff are super friendly here and will do anything to make you comfortable but the icing on the cake for me is the surroundings and the wildlife. On arrival, we were being shown to the hibiscus suite and there was a sloth on the tree right in front of us, so close. We spent some time out on the borrowed banana bikes, did some shopping at the local store and went kayaking, but when resting on the small beach (or pool) you can while away your time spotting the wildlife. While at Aguas Claras, as well as sloths, I saw macaw’s, leaf cutter ants, agoutis, squirrels, lizards, butterflies and birds. The room was comfortable, airy and spacious. (No TV if you feel like you need one). There were vegan options for meals but not many so I did tend to have the same breakfast every day then eat out for lunch and dinner. There are quite a few bars and restaurants within walking/biking distance and plenty to do in the area. A thumbs up from me.

A beatiful experience
Reviewed By Vacation48118289739We were in the casa del artista for 3 weeks in the middle of the jungle. The house is very beautiful and the nature surroundings breathtaking. We’ve seen many animals including a sloth climbing a tree right next to the house. Since the house is in the jungle animals are permanent guests in and outside the house for us a perfect way to feel more comfy with them? The house is completely covered in mosquito nets though so don’t be scared. The owners are so hearthwarmy and lovingly nice people and the breakfast they make is a must have in a beatiful environment.

Reviewed By DanielleSL17We absolutely loved this place and don't have a bad word to say about it. The rooms are really clean and modern and there's plenty of room. You can also open the doors to the balcony and have the screens shut to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest from our room. the rooms are all located within the forest with cute wooden walkways to them. It felt very luxurious and 100000% worth the money. The pools are beautiful and super relaxing. The staff are lovely also. For dinner we got tub tubs into town but you can also rent bikes from the hotel. The breakfast was great and the staff can't do enough for you honestly. There is a tour every morning for you to see some of the surrounding wildlife, we spotted a few sloths and also a toucan. The beds were SO comfy. We also used our drone at the pool which was really cool (when no one was there)

We gotten eaten by bugs in our room. I would liken it to camping. Friendly staff, good breakfast. We moved resorts after one night. Feels like it needs work to get back to pre-COVID capacity.

Unique place to stay

We were there for 2 nights and appreciated the Tibetan character of the cabina, the many statues and flora on the grounds,and just the warm and comfortable vibe. The cabina was in the Tibetan style, simple but very comfortable. The location is great…about a mile from the craziness of puerto viejo, but close enough to get there quickly. Beach right across the street. Breakfast was simple but still very nice. Service was excellent. I would like to single out Augustin at the front desk. He was amazing. Warm, engaging, thoroughly wanting to please us and he clearly went above and beyond to do so. Just a really sweet and nice person. We would definitely stay there and highly recommend the hotel. Also the cabinas, which I recommend, made the experience not feel like a “hotel.”

Reviewed By garyt0My wife and I enjoyed an 11 night stay at RNV; it was amazing. Puerto Viejo itself takes a bit of an effort to get too, but is is so, so worth it. Not wanting to make the 6 hour drive from San Jose; we choose to fly Sansa the Costa Rican airline, to the Limon Airport, about an hour away from PV. Christian, the RNV property owner arranged both our arrival and departure transfers from the airport for US$50 one way. Upon arrival; Christian was there to meet us for a quick check in process. He showed us our chalet; and brought us a refreshing fresh fruit juice after we had arranged our things. The Chalet's are set back from the main road; down a jungle path; safe and secure. The rainforest vegetation has been landscaped around the chalets to ensure your privacy. He has even added an insect repelling plant around your chalet to keep the mosquitoes away. The Chalet's are wooden, open and spacious. The bathroom is huge for a lodging in Central or South America, with plenty of hot water.A full kingsized bed, with amazing linen combined with the silence of the jungle made for the best night's sleep we've enjoyed in ages. The deck of the Chalet boasts 2 hammocks; 2 chairs and a rustic wooden table. Christian always made sure he brought us coffee every afternoon when we returned from the beach or daily adventure, which we always enjoyed on the deck. There is plenty of storage space in the room, and a small fridge to keep your beverages cold. NOTE: I was worried about the lack of air conditioning; I'm someone who cranks the hotel air to 62 degrees to sleep. But we found that even when it is very hot in Costa Rica, the ceiling fan still allows for a great night sleep. The nights when it rains is a real treat, as you get the cooling breezes and the sound of the rain hitting the metal roof....heaven. We only had one evening without rain; the days were rainless. You are awakened by the jungle birds, howler monkeys and if you peek out; on some mornings local wildlife. Walk down the path to the breakfast area and Christian will be there greeting all the guests with his infectious laugh; something we miss already. Breakfast is made to order and a place where you meet some of the other guests and can get some good ideas for the days plans. We meet nice folks from around the world; and enjoyed the breakfast banter. Start with the amazing local coffee; then you get a bowl of fruit and a choice of natural fruit juice. I was a sucker for the banana and papaya. You can then order from a limited, but fresh main dish menu. The omelets were very good; and one morning they had pancakes available. Probably the best thing though was the toast made from homemade bread served with natural jams; our go to was the guava. The location is perfect. You are a 5 minute walk from Cocles Beach, where a cool jungle river collides with the warm Carribean. There is a first class grocery store just steps away; clean and modern. And 2 wonderful places to eat lunch or dinner; La Nena (have the Carribean chicken!) and the Rio Negro Cafe offer amazing mixed drinks, beer list and local plates! We rented a car for a few days to see the National Parks; Adobe Car Rental in Puerto Viejo offered fair rates and great service. But when we didn't have a car, we used the Tuk-Tuks for the short drive into town; or to play on Chiquita Beach, just down. the road. Plenty of great places to eat in the area, but don't miss The Spicy Coconut, Como en la Gloria, or Gypsies. All places offer great Vegan options as well. We REALLY, REALLY, hated to leave. I joked with Christian that we were disappointed that our Covid tests to return to the US came back negative, as 15 days in quarantine there would have been awesome. We will miss the beautiful property; but mostly we will miss Christian, Luis and the amazing staff.

You can spot sloths, monkeys, toucans, unique frogs, and other wild animals while drinking your morning coffee or relaxing in the garden. We offer accommodations in the form of dorms and private rooms. Shared kitchen for guest use, garden area with BBQ and hot water showers. Knowing the area we will be happy to recommend and book tours, transportation and help with any question or need.

Reviewed By Vacation788552down an empty dirt road far from anything, filthy walls, cobwebs on ceilings, furniture looks like came from a dump, no noise reduction at all. I have stayed at over a hundred hostels and this would easily be in the bottom 3. They put a lot of effort into trying to make the outside look cool but none into functioning. Staff kitchen is bigger than guests. Buildings are nothing more than garages and just as dirty. Black mold in bathroom stalls. Thick coat of grime on everything. Cats on dishes.

Our property has a hostel part with dorm beds and private cabinas and suites to rent as well. Tasty Dayz Hostel sits on a beautiful land with gardens everywhere where you can see monkeys, sloths and many others. We are located right the other side of the street from the main Cocles beach.
My FAVORITE hostel experience ever!

The location is directly across the street from the beach and nestled in beautiful grounds full of beautiful flowers and tress. It's just a few minutes to ride in to town for essentials or to explore, or just down the road from the main Cocles Beach stretch and the Jaguar Rescue Center. I booked a private room - it had all the essentials necessary for a great stay. The room was clean, the bedding was soft, the air conditioner kept me *very* happy and cool, and the water pressure in the shower is better than what I have at home. The internet is fast, the on-site cantina is delicious and full of nightly activities, the staff are super nice and helpful, the grounds felt safe and secure (and quiet!), and it was a perfect home base to get to know Puerto Viejo and the surrounding areas. I loved snorkeling around the big rock at Cocles that's a less than three minute walk from my room's door to the shoreline - rays, reefs, and lots of fish in some pretty dramatic underwater geography. And yes, you are in tropical location. There will be bugs. If that's not your thing, you might want to stay out of Costa Rica entirely. I honestly experienced less creepy-crawlies here than my last two trips (once in a more upscale hotel, and the other in a jungle house). I will absolutely be staying here on my next trip to PV, and will recommend it to all my friends! p.s. - solo female traveller, no issues because I know not to be out and about in problematic places or at certain times. Follow the advice of the staff and you'll be golden! I also packed ear plugs (cos hostel, duh) but never had to use them.

A nice place to stay in the Caribbean
Reviewed By H4314QQvictorvThe villas are nice, they're spacious. The pool is very good for couples or children. The staff was nice and kind. It has a nice location, close to several beaches. The mattress on the main room was awful, my wife and I had to sleep in the floor using some sofas in the living room, also the handle in one of the doors was broken. The kitchen didn't have an oven, just in case your counting on it. The road outside the villa is gravel, we heard some cars that struggle passing by, just to keep in mind. The internet was poor. I will give it 3.5 score if I could but for the price you pay the mattress was too bad.
