Andy Nelson's Southern Pit BBQ

Our Family has nearly a century old tradition of serving "Serious Barbecue." Andy Sr. Learned his labor of love from his dad, 'Guy Nelson' - Chief Barbecue Man for Limestone County, Alabama. In the 50's, Andy & Betty were not only attending Memphis State, raising a family, and sighting the real Elvis, but they were also developing a BBQ style all their own, integrating the spiciness of Memphis BBQ with the Old Nelson Family tradition. Andy's not famous for his championship years with the Baltimore Colts; he's famous for his hickory smoked BBQ. Ask Andy and he'll tell you that one of the secrets is slow cooking. Our BBQ is smoked many hours over Hickory logs until it falls off the bone, then simmered in our own heirloom sauce. Regularly voted "Baltimore's Best BBQ" by the staff and readers of Baltimore Magazine and the City Paper, this is one "Q" you won't want to miss. So let us take you and your guests down the Ol' Mississippi with great "Q" and maybe a little Elvis background music (streamed from Andy's iPod, of course). We recommend adding some of our Extra Fixin's to compliment your meal. We have been providing the Maryland area residents with the Best BBQ in a family atmosphere for over 30 years. We have been delivering quality BBQ to our local community and have never lost sight of what "The Best Q" means to our family and our guests. When it comes to BBQ, we make sure that everything is always made from scratch and everything always tastes perfect. I guarantee it! -Andy Nelson

I have to admit: I've never really considered myself a fan of BBQ. Growing up north of the Mason-Dixon line, BBQ was just not a part of my formative years. Nevertheless, I have to admit that one dinner at Andy Nelson's sure made a believer out of me! You can order an Express Sa"M"wich in either the Regular (5 oz.) or Jumbo (8 oz.) sizes. If you order the Express, you get two sides plus a regular fountain soda. I went with the Jumbo Express Pulled Pork. Other options include Southern Pit Beef, Beef Brisket, Brisket Tips, Beef BBQ, Pulled Turkey Q, and Yardbird {chicken breast}. My Sa"M"wich was ready in just a few minutes with what had to be the largest amount of pulled pork I've ever seen and it was wonderful, everything I hoped it would be and more. Equally wonderful were Grandma's Cole Slaw and Andy's BBQ Beans. If you go, you absolutely must try the beans - they have the most delicious taste - sweet but with an amazing tanginess and bite. My wife also opted for pulled pork but she went for macaroni and cheese and collard greens for her sides. She felt that the collards were a bit too salty for her taste but very much enjoyed the mac and cheese. Both of us enjoyed the cornbread, the perfect complement to our meal. Including our fountain sodas, our dinner for two came to less than $30 - what a bargain! Another aspect that we liked was the down home, unpretentious atmosphere to accompany the great food and friendly service. We're definitely planning on coming back to Andy Nelson's real soon!

As in other Wegmas's stores, this one has an entire area of ready-made foods. A cold salad bar, appetizers, multiple warm dishes, sides, salads, desserts and beverages are offered to the customers. You pick and choose your meal and can take it to the dining area, where tables, chairs and booths offer a quiet place to eat, or can take it home, for the entire family's delight. Stews, roast chicken, fried chicken, burgers, and a great more variety of dishes offers something for every taste. This is fresh food, from the high quality material on sale at Wegmans and clearly processed by expert personnel in the kitchen. it is not haute cuisine, but it is down-home, comfort food that is tasty, satisfying and makes for an excellent lunch or dinner. Certainly, a quick solution to busy parents who work and for singles who can;t or won;t cook.

Return trip to this historic gem of a building which has maintained its ambience. Seasonal menu varies and we were fortunate to have excellent salmon, pork and chicken entrees topped off by real creme brûlée. Wait staff attentive knowledgeable but unobtrusive. A bit expensive but worth it.

It was a beautiful evening in February which is very rare in Maryland this time of year. Wanted to have dinner outside and in this area there are three restaurant options. Never tried this place and always wanted too. We knew it was pricey but we wanted to give it a try.

No problems with the service at all. Little slow on asking about our meal and if we wanted more drinks. Actually, never asked about the drinks until the meal was over.

My husband ordered the NY Strip special that came with mash potatoes. Additional sides are not free, but if you don't like the side offered with the meal you can substitute at no additional charge. I had the jumbo lump crab cake that came with coleslaw.

My husbands steak was very dry and he ordered it medium so it wasn't over cooked. He's made better steaks on our grill. I wanted a side of mash potatoes which were an additional $4. Lots of garlic in them and if you like garlic you're fine. Crab cakes were fine. No filler which I was happy with but for $30 they were very tiny. My husband liked the coleslaw so he ate it. It wasn't to my liking.

It's a very nice atmosphere but very over priced. Gave it a try. Won't be returning. I wish we had more places with outdoor seating in our area that also has very good food.

They have a wide selection of Italian foods, from pastas to chicken, veal and seafood dishes. Plus they have homemade from their ovens, a nice selections of personal pizzas. You definitely will find a dish you like. In addition to their normal menu, they always have specials. I had the sea bass special with mussels, clams and shrimp. Excellent. They also have a nice selection of salads and appetizers. If you have been in a while they now sell there own wine, so no need to bring your own. However, you can but they charge a corking charge. The service is very good -- very attentive but not annoying. They have a nice wine menu, after dinner drinks and Italian desserts. Reservations is suggested as it become crowded on the weekend.

We ate dinner last night at California Pizza Kitchen. Our waitress was Appalachia. She was super attentive and knew so much about the food choices! She recommended the Kung Pao spaghetti which was excellent according to my husband. Our friend had the mushroom pizza which she said was well done and flavorful. I had a protein bowl with pepitas, spinach, corn, black beans, and tomatoes. It was a large portion and I couldn't finish it all. We will be back. The location is great and it is easy to get a parking spot. The best part was Appalachia!

Carlos Italian Bistro

In the early 1970's, Carlo and Felicia Schiattarella ventured from their small town in Naples, Italy & opened a quaint carryout pizzeria. Three decades later, The Schiattarella family is proudly introducing their 3rd full service restaurant in MD. Come join us for a delectable experience at Carlo's Italian Bistro and enjoy authentic, mouth watering Southern Italian cuisine. We take pride in serving top quality veal, chicken, seafood and shellfish specialties, along with salads, subs and sandwiches. With all of our menu items made fresh to order, we can gladly accommodate any dietary needs and preferences. Our casually elegant dining room is a perfect setting for a romantic dinner, friendly get-together or business luncheon, along with plenty of space for large parties & gatherings. Although we do not have a liquor license, we encourage our guests to bring their own alcoholic beverages to complete their dining experience.

Carlo's was a nice experience. We had not been before, hadn't even known it existed prior to a few weeks ago. In the strip mall at Church Ln and York Rd, kitty corner from IHOP, it looks nondescript from the outside, but is surprisingly nice inside. Look at the photos on their website, nicely done in wood paneling, with an upstairs loft or balcony overlooking the main dining space.

Our waitress was very nice and attentive, a pleasure. The menu is fairly typical of a mall Italian restaurant. Fairly extensive, but small enough to believe everything is made fresh, not microwaved frozen. We had a shrimp appetizer, which was ok. Our entrees were eggplant parmigiana and veal parmigiana. Both enjoyable, neither great. The bread was very good. Both entrees came with house salads and pasta, spaghetti with the eggplant, rigatoni with the veal- both ok.

Reviews on-line note BYOB. When we were there, there was alcohol on the menu (I believe), though we didn't order beer or wine.

This place won't blow your socks off, but at reasonable prices, in a convenient location and with a very nice ambience, it won't disappoint either. Comparing it to Vito's , a bit less upscale feel, but roughly equivalent, with a nice open feel compared to the smaller, intimate or tighter feel of Vito's. Significantly smaller than Fazzini's, but with a more interesting space.

It's nice to have 3 nice local Italian restaurants.
