This restaurant is where you must go if you want real Portuguese food in a beautiful setting! It can be tricky to find you just have to keep heading for the Hippocentre. No hippos, just horses. If you get to a dirt track road then you are going in the right direction. When you arrive the view is magnificent! The welcome is very friendly and you can get stuck into the starters. Alheira (chicken sausage), onion with red wine and fabulous ham! You must drink your wine from a mug, that's the best! Main courses were succulent roast lamb and lovely fresh Bacalhau! For desert we had Leite Creme and then tried the local liquor and Agua Dente ( firewater) which were fantastic! What a great day! If you want to really eat Portuguese style, then make a visit to this lovely Tasquina!

Food is absolutely home made style, btw this is a family restaurant...
You can ask for anything they will prepare it for you.
Regarding the bill... This is a very good surprise :) cheaper than average restaurant!!

Some of the writers here seem to totally blinded by the good red wine or they bring a relationship between bacalhau, octopus and the river. Cod comes from Norway other from sea.
Pizza is nice but as usual overpriced (big profit), 6.5€ for a starter is not cheap and sharing is normal in Portuguese restaurants esp. In Norte where usually meia dose is good for one person
So don't give to much about these reviews from people who are first time in Portugal and don't now food, habits and price level

Traditional portuguese food, lovely food and big portions, very nice vegetable soup starter. The mains had plenty of meat served with rice, green beans and potatoes sliced like crisps which seems a local offering. Visited twice during our stay, little english spoken but the waiter was more than helpful in assisting us with our choice an enjoyable experience alround.

I used trip advisor to find this little gem. We popped in for lunch whilst in Marco de Cannaves. Very traditional Portuguese food at a reasonable price. A very good wine list too. I had pork and my Portuguese wife had cod of course. Both meals were perfect. Service was from really friendly staff. Will visit again next time I'm in the area.

We ate a "posta arouquesa" which was wonderful. The house red wine is just great and is a very good companion to the meat. Starters and dessert were also very good. Nice and helpful staff.

Although the people were very friendly it was a bit of a challenge to order our food because they didn't speak English. The food itself and the starters were good. Also the wine was fine. Sitting outside was no problem because we made the reservation earlier that day.
