You Ye De Lin B&B

Great Hospitality

Reviewed By Rodney A

After a long day starting in Chiayi and taking the train to Fen Chi Hu and then walking with the kids 4 hours to Ruili, we were welcomed by a wonderful homestay experience. The food was delicious We had a home-cooked dinner and breakfast and they even packed a lunch for our hiking the following day. It was great value and we and highly recommend it. If you are walking from Fen Chi Hu, be careful because Google maps has the location wrong and it's quite far from The Ruili trailhead, so try to catch a ride after you hit the highway.

A Comfortable Room in a Beautiful Setting

Reviewed By Annarion

We're a couple from Australia in our early 30s visiting Taiwan for the first time. Alishan was on our 2-week itinerary, and after researching, we chose to base ourselves outside of the recreation area to have a more local experience and avoid exorbitant prices. Although the BnB was a little more expensive than expected (we paid AUD500/3nights), our comfortable stay here was well worth it. Location: We chose to drive to Alishan so that we could fit more into our 2-week itinerary, but also to avoid taking buses around the mountainous roads given that I am prone to travel sickness. For us, the location was ideal; ~15 mins from Fenqihu (a town which ended up having our favourite trail of the area - the Fenrui Historic Trail, and a delightful Old St) and ~40 mins to the Alishan Recreation Area. Otherwise, it was great coming back to a quiet room with beautiful views of mountains and tea fields. We walked down the road to watch sunsets (there is a viewing platform ~10mins walk down, but just around the corner along the road we found spots just as beautiful and private). Notably, you would have to go into town, either ~15mins to Fenqihu or ~5-10mins to Shizhuo to have dinner as there wasn't anything available in walkable distance. We would usually just have a light dinner made up of something we picked up while out during the day. Also, if you are driving here we would strongly recommend staying on the 2-laned main road (Google maps directed us along an inner road with no centre line and it was very stressful to say the least i.e. it was as wide as a one-lane road in Australia and along the whole way up we were the only car driving in the upwards direction..). The driveway into the BnB is also quite narrow, so we would often turn around up the road in front of a temple, only a few meters away. Room: We stayed on the second floor (there are only 2 floors) in a corner room. I would highly recommend staying upstairs if possible; for the amazing views, privacy in the corner (as the large upstairs balcony is shared between all upstairs rooms) and from what I have read in other reviews, the upstairs rooms have been updated. The room was spacious with 2 large double beds, a sitting area, cable TV, fast reliable WiFi and a modern bathroom with plentiful hot water and great water pressure. Outside of the rooms, is a large shared fridge if you need it and filtered water (hot and cold). We were very comfortable in these rooms which were spacious, private (we never had anyone walk over to our side of the balcony, and in fact, other guests seemed just as happy restricted to the large balcony area, containing a large table and chair set, in front of their rooms, and the sleep quality at night was good (comfortable beds in a quiet setting). Rooms included breakfast and we would select from a menu the day before. They were simple, tasty and filling and could be picked up from the reception area in a cooler bag from 7am. We enjoyed all our meals out on the balcony and a typical breakfast for us would be; an egg pancake (Taiwanese style), a hard boiled egg, a piece of fruit and a warm soy milk drink. Hosts: Our hosts were accommodating and kind. Not a word of English, but enthusiastic with Google Translate and very friendly. They always had warm smiles and were considerate. For example, on a foggy evening, the gentleman came up to our room to ask us if we wanted a ride into town for dinner given the unfavourable driving conditions. Bottom Line: I would stay here again and recommend it to family and friends. It provides simple, clean and comfortable rooms with great views and hosts.
