We had the best dinner here on Saturday night. The vegan options were great for my vegan daughter. I also have a Coeliac vegetarian daughter. I called ahead and the chef arranged a fantastic GF vegetarian lasagna that was sensational. And I had the lamb shanks. Delicious. The atmosphere was great and the staff are very accommodating and friendly and knowledgeable about the wines and the menu. We will be back again.

Went for lunch on Thursday. It was our first visit here as we usually eat on the other side of the wine region at places like Baume (Lindemans Ben Ean winery). We ordered the lasagne and gnocchi with pulled lamb.My wife said the lasagne was tasty but it needed a bit more depth of flavour. The cares salad was good. The salsa verde was not necessary. The seasoned chips were tasty. The pulled lamb with gnocchi was delicious. It had a rich tomato-based sauce and had a generous serving of juicy cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and olive tepenade. The large pillows of gnocchi were melt in the mouth! The sauce was so plentiful I asked for some bread to soak it up.Both meals filled our bellies we didn't have room for a dessert. The beverage prices are on par with other good eateries in the Hunter. The flat white coffee was too hot for my liking as the milk was slightly burnt.Overall, a pleasant cafe with a nice outlook over the small dam. I suspect the sun, mozzies and flies could be a problem if eating on the deck in summer.

My family and I visited this highly regarded establishment on Saturday the 25th of May. After impressive visits by one member of the group, we were duly disappointed by the clumsy service and mediocre meal that we had discussed in such a high regard to our international visitors. After being seated promptly in our reserved spot, we began to order our delicacies. Our requests were taken without a hitch but that’s where our delight ended. Considering that the venue is also a winery, it would be silly to not try some of their beverages. We were impressed by the hour long wait to serve said bottles of wine; perhaps they picked the grapes for us upon our order and then fermented it for us. Impressive if true. In what can only be explained as idiocy, the waiter didn’t know the difference between nut and gluten allergies. Considering two family members are deadly allergic to nuts this was quite a dumbfounding revelation. Upon multiple trips back to the table to clarify the order, they still received a meal that was both gluten and nut free. My cousin was gutted to find out that the side of cuscus she ordered would not arrive because it in fact had nuts, and at the time of ordering this was not told about it having nuts, nor offered an alternative. While devouring the meal that took ninety minutes to land in front of us, we noticed multiple hairs sitting calmly on our plates. The table next to us also noticed this problem. We weren’t sure if they were listed ingredients for the meal so we decided to leave those to the side. During the degustation that would later occur (since we were starving by now), one guest noticed that his lamb rump was still red inside, not even pink at a minimum. Perhaps it was still breathing it was that raw. Upon this discovery, he ceased eating the meal. After finishing our meal and exiting the venue in a swift manner due to the mentioned annoyances, we paid our debts and ventured home. During our discussions about the poor service we reread the receipt to also realise we were charged for a glass of wine that had never existed. We were annoyed to find this fact considering we had read the bill in the restaurant, but even more displeased that we were charged this in the first place. There were some meals that were fantastic, but the poor service and abysmal care demonstrated by the staff has forced us to write this review. Perhaps we got unlucky today, but even with the little amount of luck on our side, events like this should never happen considering the price we eventually paid for a potential ER visit. Yours kindly,A dissatisfied customer.Dear mattwatts75,We are very dissapointed to read your feedback following your lunch at our restaurant. Our team pride themselves on providing a great customer experience, however on this occasion have fallen well short of the mark. The overhead heaters kept the area comfortable and throws were available if you felt the need to warm-up a bit ☺The wait staff was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable of the whole menu.We order the S&P calamari, goats cheese tartlets and garlic/chilli prawns. The S&P Squid consisted of 8 small pieces with aoili dip. The lightly batteted squid was very tender but we couldn't taste the seasoning. We needed to add salt. This dish was ok but overpriced at $26There was 4 goat cheese (locally made) tartlets with caramelised onion topped with a tasty relish. This dish was very tasty and reasonably priced at $22There was 6 medium-large prawns served in a cast iron pot with ample garlic/chilli oil accompanied with 6 small triangular pieces of nice bread. This dish was tasty but overpriced at $36.The orange/cinnamon infused arancini balls was an unusual combination but so delicious. The 4 balls were coated in panko crumbs and fried perfectly. The single small scoop of vanilla icecream was good quality but another scoop was needed The beverage prices are at the limit of what I'm willing to pay.Overall, a very pleasant lunch but felt some of the dishes portion sizes could be improved compared to some other restaurants in the local area we've frequented. Emerson Rodriguez hang your head in shame! Mother’s Day lunch with only two waitresses run off their feet trying to cope with a full house. We saw three tables of customers leave without having eaten, after waiting forever to be served. We ordered drinks, starters and mains. Two beers arrived for the men, and about 15 minutes later the champagne finally made it for the ladies! Duck pate was beautiful, handmade dip was not what I would call a dip. Oil and something that could have been dukkah.Mains were underwhelming..the chicken Maryland was actually a chicken breast and wingette, some gnocchi and tomato had burnt bits that couldn’t be eaten. Slow cooked duck and mushroom risotto was really a risotto with a generous serving of mushrooms that were very prominent, with little bits of something that may have been duck, or could also have been finely shredded chicken leg meat. Either way, couldn’t tell. My son-in-law cooks duck beautifully, so I know what it should taste like. Didn’t order desserts or coffee because we were so disappointed.

Yesterday we visited Leaves & Fishes with friends. It was our first visit. What an absolute delight. The grounds of this establishment are magnificently presented with cottage buildings scattered about amidst beautiful gardens & water features, a large fish filled dam, wonderful Indonesian garden features, outdoor eating area, peach blossom trees and beautiful views. The main restaurant is rustic and colourful with indoor seating & featuring a large outdoor verandah overlooking the fish filled, bullrush surrounded dam. We were seated at a table overlooking the bullrushes & water...so lovely. The menu..sophisticated & reasonably priced...offered excellent seafood choices and chicken. Our table of guests thoroughly enjoyed entrees of soft shell crab and scallops plate...all fabulous & infused with Asian cooking flare. (Priced @ about $25-$28). There were entree share plates on offer too. Mains included Spiced Asian whole Snapper, Trout with Asian greens in a delicate Asian spiced broth, poached Chicken Breast & Tempura style fish fillets....we all loved our meals. By Dessert looked to be fabulous. Affogato, rich chocolate individual tart, a fine cheese plate....and more. Excellent coffee to finish. An excellent wine list featuring local HV wines is on offer. The service...warm & friendly, efficient, knowledgeable & lovely staff. We had an extraordinarily beautiful lunch. Just a 40min drive from Newcastle. We'll be back.

The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared and paired with the wines. We enjoyed the set menu for the event including seafood, chicken and steak dishes that were full of flavour and presented beautifully.
