We spent a night on the way from Lisbon to Porto. The stuff was utterly helpful and friendly. The administrator personally came to check us in after hours. The double room was clean with good wifi connection. The hostel has a cafe with decent coffee and breakfast.

A boutique hotel and equestrian centre at the heart of the Ribatejo Region of Portugal. We welcome guests to enjoy our unique horse riding holidays and those simply wishing to visit the local area including river trips in Marchanta's own boats. Marchanta sits on the banks of the River Tejo, near the gothic hill town of Santarem, only 45 minutes north from Lisbon by train or car.
I have just spent a few days in this lovely place…. A delightful finca with a variety of attractive buildings and active stables housing fabulous Lusitano horses. The atmosphere is welcoming, the accommodation clean and comfortable and we had a delicious Brazilian meal in the restaurant. Marchanta is ideally situated for day trips to Lisbon; a train from nearby Walk up the river for a meal in the sleepy town of Vallada with a sandy beach on the banks of the Tagus and views across to Bird island. Direct trains form Reguengo station (less than 5minutes drive way) take you directly to the Santa Apollonia station in the heart of downtown Lisbon in less than an hour. Walk from there around the cobbled streets of the Alfama district and up to the St George Castle for panoramic views over this magnificent city.

The room is very spacious. The concierge / reception is very friendly and helpful. Breathtaking views from the restaurant terrace. Staff is helpful & speaks English or try to get hold of someone who can speak English. Morning breakfast is elaborate and extremely filling. Specially the fresh fruits and variety in food is very good. Restaurants are close by, Lavandria is walking distance where you can wash and dry your clothes. In all one of the best hotel after experiencing cramped & worthless hotels in Lisbon who boast of a 3 or 4 stars.

Liked: The room is quite comfortable, clean, has a smart TV, has a portable heater. The kitchen is clean and fully equipped. There's a free parking spot behind the House. There are restaurants and markets around. Disliked: The Cartaxo's room bathroom is... badly designed, it's huge (almost same size as the room itself), but: - The door makes a LOT of noise, wanna use quietly during the night? Nope, your SO will wake up. - It's COLD, there's no portable heater in the bathroom. - There is NOWHERE to put your clothes: either atop the sink, or the toilet. - The toilet paper stays BEHIND the toilet seat - The door has no handle inside, if you forget to put the little cord to the inner side when you close it you'll have a miserable time trying to open it. - The soap dispenser has no label, if you decide to use it you'll have to guess which is the soap/shampoo - The shower box is open, try as you must, you'll end up getting the floor wet, this with the cold floor is... not nice Lots of bad points, but, they're all *easily* fixable, so here's hoping they are corrected.

We booked a room for 2 nights last July through Booking.com, but after some time (and only 2 days prior to our stay), we were contacted by Booking.com warning us our reservation had been cancelled by the host with no further explanation. Booking.com was great in providing alternatives, but the short notice meant there weren't many options available anymore. Sorting everything obviously meant extra stress and lost time on our holiday. Having Casa Azul contacting us to apologize and explain why they wouldn't be able to accommodate us was the minimum we expected, but never heard a word from them. Terrible customer service, so avoid if you want a relaxed and stress free holiday.

This hotel is not 3*.... It is a real mess and not maintained properly. Official pictures are not representative. The beds are terribly hard, so you can not rest. Some rooms have good WiFi... room 204 do not. Terrible tv signal. Some noice from the road too. Will recommend to take a hotel in Santarem instead!
