Bar Ristorante Pizzeria Buon Gusto

Walking into Buon Gusto makes you feel like you have made the right choice. Warm, muted tones, the selections of wine and liquors proudly displayed. Crisp white tablecloths contrasting with large black and white photos of various locations across Italy. The setting holds out much promise. A promise well fulfilled. We decided to split three course; the rucola salad, the Tagliatelle Buon Gusto with sausage, porcini in tomato sauce, and the veal scallopini in white wine and porcini (it is porcini season after all!) with a side of spinaci, accompanied by a Barbera di Asti. Our host apologized that he no longer had the listed Barbera di Asti but then produced an alternative Barbera for the same price that he promised we would enjoy. He was correct. The wine was deep and rich with more mouth-feel than a typical Barbera and enough tannins and acid to hold out much promise for it pairing with our meal. The salad was serviceable and a bit over dressed but the large amount of flaked parmesan cheese hinted at the generous tone of the rest of the meal. The home-made tagliatelli was a revelation. Perfectly cooked and sauced with a rich almost dark amber sauce with tasty bites of Italian sausage and juicy porcini. When we asked for a little heat we were brought a small cruet of fresh olio santo, finely chopped hot red peppers in a fine olive oil. This bit of kick made a wonderful dish of tagliatelli approach gastronomic perfection. The scallopini did not disappoint, even after the high note of the pasta course. Thick but tender medallions of flavorful veal in an excellent light white wine, lemon and porcini sauce, which contrasted beautifully with the deep vegetal some what bitter green of the spinaci. Fortunately we were served a basket of fresh baked hard rolls that aided us in ensuring that none of the sauce from either our pasta or scallopini returned to the kitchen. We ended the dinner with two excellent grappi (grappas?) from our host's extensive selection. Buon Gusto has a fairly extensive menu. If we are ever in Winterthur again we will certainly be back to explore it further.

I got to know salmon in the far north. There, where Frederik smokes his salmon. Where the midnight sun shines in the summer, and in the polar night the winter evenings last a day. There, where the salmon in freshest water pull up the rivers to secure the

We were having tea at a place across the road and using the Wi-fi there to locate somewhere to eat as we hadn’t had lunch and it was 5pm. We found this restaurant and decided to give it a go. Wow! We ordered the three tier stand with different types of Norwegian salmon, langoustine and prawns. It was delicious with hot smoked salmon, gravalax, beetroot cured salmon, salmon and salmon caviar. The sauces were good. The bread bag contained a good mix of breads. We started with a glass of champagne but decided to have the bottle, we loved this place. The apple cake with white chocolate truffle ice cream was superb. Service was superb and they spoke excellent English as the menu was in German and we could only decipher the odd words. Bravo! Keep the excellent work going.

We enjoyed a meal for four here on a Saturday night. This restaurant feels a bit like a nice upscale french bistro. It is small and has a intimate feeling to it. We experienced excellent food and attentive, friendly service. Everything we had was tasty: herb crusted lamb, cordon bleau, fried fish, steak tartar. There is an extensive wine offering, it is quite difficult to choose. If you are in the area, this is worth a stop, it is tucked away in Winterthur, and a bit of a hidden gem!
