I was very confused ‍♀️ by the experience and had a hard time formulating my review which I think is the main take away. Atmosphere is beautiful as restaurant located in this gorgeous castle like mansion surrounded by water and you walk across the “draw bridge” to get to it. Dinning room is small but tables are set far apart from each other allowing generous room and space for people to have conversation without listening to their neighbors. We had 3 courses and my friend had soufflé for dessert. 1 course: artichoke soup - very good 2 course: poached lobster - amazing!!!!!! Presentation was stunning and taste incredible 3 course: veal cheek in red wine - not impressive in either taste or presentation and felt like was prepared by a different chef in a lower class of establishment My friend’s soufflé was very disappointing ( too cheesy and eggy)Dear guest Thank you for taking the time for sharing your impressions of your dinner with us. We truly appreciate it and your positive feedback regarding our friendly staff and the atmosphere. We have taken your suggestions into consideration, and we are looking at alternatives that we could provide to make your stay more memorable. However, we deeply regret that you were not entirely satisfied with our cuisine. We continuously strive to meet our guest’s needs and expectations; therefore your feedback is extremely important to us. We hope we can welcome you again as our guest in our castle, so we will make a special mean cores dish created from our Chef de Cuisine for you. With best regards, The castle-team and Johannes Tschopp, host

The large terrace overlooking the valley is the real reason to dine here. We have been eating dinner here watching the sunset over Basel at several occasions. It is perfect for taking a walk in the hills and having dinner afterwards. The food is pricy and the service is a bit quirky. Nothing really bad to say about the food - it is nice and served in large portions. You can unfortunately not reserve a table outside unless you book for at least 10 persons.

During our recent stay in the Hofmatt Hotel, we had dinner on two evenings in their restaurant. Overall, it was a pleasant experience on both nights. Even when not staying in the hotel, the restaurant is easy to reach and provides plenty parking space, with even more parking opportunities nearby. The atmosphere is okay. On the one hand side, the places were laid out well and the tables had nice, season matching decorations. On the other hand, the room as such could be a bit cosier and some of the tables stand a bit close to each other – which was great for us, since we wanted to have a big table, but makes having an intimate dinner-for-two a matter of getting the right table. It’s probably owed to the hotels main purpose of accommodating business travellers. The cuisine mostly is not to be faulted. They offer traditional Swiss with Mediterranean influences, with all the mainstream dishes expected on the menu. We appreciated the wide selection in vegetarian offers as well as the flexibility of preparing one of the lunch-time dishes for dinner without hesitation. The salads were fresh, the main courses mostly excellent and the desserts fine. What ruins the excellent rating was the first main course that I had – for my taste there was just not enough sauce on my tagliatelle. They still tasted good, so I did not complain, and all other food we had left nothing to desire. So a “very good” is well deserved here. For drink they offer a decent selection in wine, and to our joy we found a wonderful Amarone at a very fair price. Also, the Prosecco offered was good.Lastly, the service was friendly and attentive. Nothing to complain here. Overall, the Hotel Hofmatt Restaurant delivers what it promises, and is also worth a visit when not staying at the hotel, but in the area. We will certainly continue to dine there when in the hotel.

Food is good - large portions of hearty family-style food. Well cooked and very traditionally Swiss. The owner is very charming and the wait staff mostly so. They have Very cosy traditional surroundings and are family friendly with a kids menu and even have a change mat for babies upstairs. The restaurant is popular so bookings are recommended. It is also possible to visit just for a drink, and if they are very busy, there is a central table that seems reserved for those just drinking. Many staff speak English and those who don't get by well anyway. There is an outside terrasse in summer which is lovely. We visit Rebstock regularly.

After completing a 3 week trip to Europe, I concluded my trip by flying to Basel to meet some great friends for dinner. They selected this restaurant because they knew I would appreciate the experience. And they were so right! Every aspect of this meal was spectacular from cocktail service & appetizers to the meal and dessert. This is now among my favorite restaurants in the world. On future visits to Basel I shall not miss the opportunity to dine here.Prices are very high - about $250 per person. But the experience was well worth the price. I didn’t mind because they delivered one of my most favorite and memorable meals - ever!

We went to this trendy restaurant..because we follow the comments...even if the restaurant is not in the center. It offers all for a talented..and this cook definitely is, to be THE place for all the rather also trendy ,young with a bit of money people. - You cross the street and enter passing all the costy bikes and the beautiful garden..and enter in a dark restaurant where you are seated hopefully next to another group of successful people enjoying loudly. We were lucky to be so far away but this had the opposite effect that they forget you. Waitresses are nice..very informal..they talk to the people they seem to know...but they are SLOW..inefficient and to WAIT (it is an expensive place) for bread..20 minutes..for the dish (excellent fish BUT NOTHING WITH IT)..another 20 minutes..and another 20 for the smallest dessert we have ever eaten! My partner got a stiff neck from turning to the waiter to get the bill. But we could see that the locals...liked it..and they seem to have all eaten before because we left hungry but the bill was as quite expensive for what you get.To summ up:This owner responds to a specific client who would not go a normal restaurant...The plates are hand made...the fish comes from a happy fish and so does the meat come from a happy animal. the wine comes from hand picked owners..and you feel so good!but if you search for a place after a hard day and want to EAT and feel welcome..you might be disappointed.

The witches decoration and the candlelit tables together make for a very attractive atmosphere. It was not easy to read the menu in the darkened restaurant but the food was excellent. The pumpkin soup was excellent and the skewered meat selection a great choice. Hope to return soon again.
