A beautiful hotel. Food & beverage lets it down.

Reviewed By nick164

Food & beverage offering and service is what really lets this hotel down. I’m being generous with a 4 star, just because the rest of the staff are very nice and the hotel itself is beautiful. Andorra was a bit of a milestone for me - my 50th country travelled to. I’ve been fortunate to experience many fine hotels and whilst Sports Hotel Hermitage (a member of the LHW) has glimmers of a true 5 star, the food & beverage service in particular leave it falling short. Some of the staff are great - attentive and personable - whilst others are just going through the motions. The arrival experience was not the best. The hotel car park was locked and there was no check-in/temporary parking out front. Checkin Itself was very efficient - albeit lacking an orientation on the hotel facilities, the need to download an app for hotel information/menus/etc. The room was beautifully appointed, spacious and with a great view of the slopes. As a LHW member, a welcome gift was provided - some chocolates and a bottle of olive oil. Whilst appreciated, a bottle of wine would have been more practical as can be enjoyed during the stay. The “king” bed was not a king, but two singles with no mattress topper. Housekeeping staff were excellent - always acknowledging you as you passed, and referring by name on any visits to the room. The room was serviced daily to a high standard including the turndown service. F&B is what really lets the hotel down. Bar service was consistently underwhelming - inattentive and on one occasion clumsy (oblivious to spilling wine as they poured a glass). A daiquiri was served in a dirty glass with red speckles on the inside - on drawing it to the waiters attention they initially claimed it was lemon juice. Vegetarian options at all hotel restaurants including room service are almost non-existent - the single dish of pasta with baby vegetables & poached egg consisted of almost zero vegetables and an extremely undercooked poached egg. Breakfast was inattentive - tea and juice orders forgotten, no offer to replenish your juice, extra place setting not removed, hot food sitting at the pass unserved in full view of staff. There was a good buffet selection and an a la carte menu, noting the scrambled eggs were very dry and a side order of toast was taken but not delivered. The hotel concierge is hard to find. Directed by the hotel staff to the spa next door, it is the poorest concierge experience of any hotel I’ve stayed. Enquiring as to good walking tracks, a booklet (vague on directions) was thrust into my hand with no advice forthcoming. I’ve had better experiences in my younger years in a youth hostel when backpacking.

Loved it!

This hotel was awesome. 65 USD per night and a great deal we stayed on a Thursday night. Just 15 minutes outside the capital of Andorra it was perfect. Full breakfast with sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, cold cuts, fruit, yogurt, toast and more. There's only 27 rooms that have a living room with dinett and tons of storage closets. The lights only work if you put Your room key ok the slot at the door. Neat Way to save on electricity. The capital is busy. Hard to find any free parking and very hard to get around in you car. Lots of shops. Tax is 5% compared to to Spain 21% and France 22% tax. Liquor was cheaper than the states even with the euro being worth more. Cigars were cheaper too. Beautiful Mountains. They had a fire that helicopters were trying to put i Out. We were there on 9/26/2019. It cooled down to a chilly 55 to 60 degrees at night. We're big on getting our passports stamped. We came in from France and stop at the border to walk into the building even though we were waved thru. We weren't taking no for an answer. There outs no parking but we made a spot on the diagonal white lines and asked security if it would alright and the were fine with it.

Superb service made for a brilliant short skiing break

Reviewed By 685rogerm

We booked four nights to celebrate a 50th birthday. The transfer from Barcelona was easy, Andbus stops literally outside the front door. The whole place feels brand new, absolutely spotless. Being able to buy a ski pass and rent ski equipment at the hotel was great and avoided having to spend time in rental shops in the town. Getting down to the ski lift requires a short taxi in the free minibus but this was always available and not a problem. There is loads of skiing to be done with everything from cruisy blues to challenging blacks. The food was excellent, plenty of choice and everything cooked fresh. The staff were really friendly and helpful. On the day of the birthday the staff performed a minor miracle by producing an amazing cake at zero notice. It really made the stay. We can't thank them enough.

Perfect hotel for skiing!

Reviewed By AshleyB_100XD

What a super hotel!! Me and a friend visited this hotel for a 4 night ski trip, and it could not have been more perfect for what we needed! Firstly, the staff were truly brilliant! Everyone from the reception staff, to the bar staff, to the restaurant staff; everyone one of them were great. Very knowledgable and happy to help, with nice little touches like remembering your regular drinks order at dinner. They all made it a very personable stay. Secondly, the food. We booked a half board meal plan with our stay, which meant we got breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was fab! It was huge buffet selection of anything from fresh pastries, fresh fruit, cooked options and cold meats and cheeses. You then had the use of unlimited fresh ground coffee and fruit juices. A perfect start to any day. Dinner was a slightly different setup, but equally as good. We had a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains every day, with warm bread and olive oil whilst you wait, and then buffet desserts afterwards. They had different choices every day, and they seemed to put in a lot of effort with presentation. Lastly, the room was nice and spacious and furnished exactly how you’d expect in Europe. Very clean and tidy, and lots of wood materials. The hot tub and sauna area was nice. This had to be booked in advance due to covid, but this was better for us as it meant we got it to ourselves. The lobby was nice, especially in the evening. It had a really cosy feel, with lots of comfortable furniture and a nice little pool table. In addition to all of this, one of the best features of this hotel is its location. I’ve never been to a better located hotel for skiing. The walk from the back door to the Gondola station was about 50 metres, which made things soooo easy every day. Plus, we rented skis from Pic Negre 9 which was located there also. It’s a match made in heaven for a ski trip because there’s no wasted time in the mornings, just straight up the mountain. A truly lovely stay at Hotel Bonavida, will definitely return.

No es lo ofertado

Reviewed By Lady_PinkBlack
