Calhoun's Texas BBQ

As far as barbecue goes, Calhoun’s rates up there with the best of the family barbecue joints found in the south. From the early morning hours you can see the smoke pouring out of the outside smoker adjacent to a very ambiguous looking restaurant located in a strip mall in Old Town Murrieta. Family owned and operated the staff are friendly and the food is great! Good luck getting your hands on their delicious sweet potato pie! They sell out every day and have a limit on how many you can buy. We got our order to-go so we could enjoy the delicious food and messy ribs in the privacy of our own home! Truly a gem hidden in a Murrieta! If I had one negative to add it would be related to our most recent trip. we recently ate pretty late in the evening and there selections were limited as they often run out of their most popular meats (like tri tip) and some of the meat was a bit dry but it was our own fault for waiting so late in the day!

Thai BBQ

This restaurant is located in a strip mall. Don't let that turn you off. It was the best Thai food I have eaten in years.

I was there last Friday for lunch. The restaurant is very nicely decorated; it looks more like a coffee shop. We tried their lunch special: the bbq pork ribs (comes with two ribs) and the beef sate (comes with four skewers). The pork ribs was amazing: fall off bone tender and very good flavor. The beef sate was okay; it was dry and was more like jerky then the typical sate that you would expect, with a very water peanut sauce. My husband and I only spent $25 (tips included) for lunch without drinks. Both the ribs and the sate comes with fried rice, which was only okay (my husband loves it though). If I come back I will just get white rice. Overall, this place offer really good value and food is good. I will definitely go back to this place for their pork ribs and explore other things on their menu.

Love to support local businesses so we gave them a try. Very nice husband and wife team. We had the brisket sandwich with a side. I didn't care for the beans; too smokey, but that's just me. They do a good lunch business but sometimes sell out by dinner, so it's best to call. We had tried once before but they were sold out.The brisket was very good and the brioche bun was a good combo. Hope they can establish themselves here!
