The Mad Hatter's Tea Room

I had been meaning to visit this for years since it's located in Caldwell, only about 20 minutes from College Station. What a pleasant surprise when we arrived. Hidden on a side street just off the courthouse square it's location is definitely off the beaten path but worth finding.
The atmosphere was very inviting and the staff extremely friendly. A place that was filled with young and old alike it was very comfortable. Our party all ordered a different quiche and all were excellent, we also had the flavored ice tea - yummy! We finished up with dessert and all three of us had something different. The chocolate dish with pistachio ice cream was definitely the best, followed by the incredible pecan pie made with a unique blend of sour cream that made it different than anything we'd had before. We finished up and even took some time to browse the boutique within the restaurant and enjoyed the unique teasers, jewelry and clothing selections. We had a great time and really enjoyed the food!

Clean with good service and reasonably priced menu. A real down to earth country type restaurant. Employees are friendly and courteous. Restrooms are a bit small but clean. Yes, I would go back again.

This is the second Mexican food restaurant in Caldwell that I have eaten at. It is the better of the two. The service is fine. There are no life code violations like in the other Mexican food restaurant I have been to. The fajatas lunch portion were average, tasty and value priced for the dish. I will have no problems coming here again.

I noticed a bunch of cars in front of Big Pop's Diner so I pulled in to find out why. There was a special on the 19oz bone-in ribeye. I was perfectly prepared. I also noticed a chicken fried chicken stuffed potato being delivered to a table near me - and watched it get devoured by a very happy water. This place is a great local find!

WHY ISNT THIS A 5 STAR??? Amazing everything!!! Great atmosphere and wonderful chips and salsa. A green salsa that is phenomenal! So glad we drive from College Station for some real Mexican food. Hidden south off Caldwell on Highway 36. We all had different plates sour cream chicken enchiladas so mouth watering, loved the beef tacos, REAL cheese enchilada and ground beef enchiladas with great flavor. My daughter had the chicken fajitas and she loved the guacamole on the side. Our party of six was treated like a king! This will be a repeat really soon. Don't forget to try the soft and flavorful sopapillas with Carmel sauce. Really nice to end our meal. Next time I will try the dessert with the ice cream. Looked delicious also! Be hungry when you go---LOTS Of food on the plates! You won't be disappointed! Just wish they were in college station!! Enjoy!!

Lissa's Restyled Sip & Shop

Reviewed By James C

Having ambled round the disappointingly cafeless George HW Bush Presidential Museum in College Station, my friend Rico and I were in need of sustenance. We hot-footed it back to Caldwell, enticed by its reputation as the Kolache capital of Texas. Imagine our disappointment when we discovered that Kolache was nowhere to be found in the sleepy afternoon streets of Caldwell. But, as luck would have it, Lissa’s Sip and Shop came to our rescue. Our helpful server brewed us up some fresh coffee and we then tucked into some delicious King Cake (we were visiting just after Mardi Gras) and a traditional coffee cake (that seemed more pecan than coffee, but that was a plus). The ambience is pleasingly bohemian antique shop, and the washrooms are both clean and quite stylish. A must-visit for disappointed Kolache lovers everywhere!

I usually stop here for a drink on my way through town going from College Station to the Austin or San Antonio area. It is right on the corner of the busiest intersect in town. The drive thru is always very quick even if there are multiple cars in line. It is usually a busy place since its the only game in town. It is a little tricky trying to exit the McDonalds and getting back on Hwy 21.
