Bretton Woods is an area within the town of Carroll, New Hampshire, United States, whose principal points of interest are three leisure and recreation facilities. Being virtually surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest, the vista from Bretton Woods toward Mount Washington and the Presidential Range includes no significant artificial structures other than the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Mount Washington Hotel.

Munroe's Family Restaurant

Located at mile marker 147.4 On Route 3 in Twin Mountain, NH.

We happened upon this restaurant last year while visiting the Mt Washington area. It was a non-descript diner that had lots of cars in the parking lot which intrigued us. (You can read my previous excellent review on Trip Advisor.)

This year we specifically planned on breakfast there, and it was a godsend after our hugely disappointing dinner experience at Mt Washington Resort and Dining Room the night before.

As before, you hardly notice it from the road except for the congested traffic in their parking lot. Inside, it was humming with a continuing flow of both locals and tourists. The revolving ladies at the counter all knew each other, there were local regulars of all kinds, and a large middle-Eastern family was accommodated within a blink of an eye. Everyone blended transparently.

The family and staff who run Munroe’s have been there forever and it’s a marvelously smooth operation. Service was impeccable.

As I said before, the menu has some unique offerings (the cheese grits were the best; the Redneck Benny the most unique), but you can order any other combination you want to concoct. Both of our breakfast meals that we chose were superb, so feel free to select anything and enjoy.

And, prices are amazingly modest for the quality and quantity of the food they serve. Don’t drive pass it!

We had breakfast this morning at the Bretton Arms Inn, part of the Mount Washington Hotel, dare I say the food was superior to any of the restaurants in the Mount Washington Resort! Moreover the ambience, and decor exceeded expectations. Kayla our server was accommodating and thoughtful. Kudos for this gem.

Fabyan's Station Restaurant and Lounge

When most visitors traveled by train, this was the stop for those venturing into New Hampshire's magnificent Crawford Notch. One of the original railroad stations, restored and converted to a restaurant and lounge, Fabyan's is located across from the Bretton Woods alpine area and less than a mile from the Omni Mount Washington Hotel. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner year round. The Fabyan's menu is casual and family-friendly, and includes typical pub menu items, including delicious burgers, as well as soups, salads and other entrées. A children's menu is available and be sure to have the staff send the model train through the dining room for your kids!

We've been skiing at Bretton Woods since 2008 and we tried Fabyan's about 6 years ago. It wasn't great then and unfortunately it wasn't great this time either. My wife and I both ordered burgers w/fries. My wife told the waitress 3 times, "no pickles" and her burger arrived with a pickle and cherry tomato garnishing the bun. My fries were ice-cold and both burgers were raw in the center, even though they were ordered "medium". The only thing they got right was my wife's fries, which were hot and crispy because she ordered them "well-done". I could have sent it all back, but didn't want to prolong the agony. When things go bad, they rarely get better. The reviews seem to be pretty good, so maybe I just got lucky. See you in 6 years!

We were waiting to board the Cog Railway to go to the summit of Mt. Washington. We needed something for lunch before boarding. The Catalanos restaurant was the only option at that site. The sandwiches were excellent. They were done to perfection while we waited. The staff were very friendly and courteous.
