Woods Coffee

Reviewed By John A - Seattle, Washington

I am a Starbucks shareholder and I am a big fan of Starbucks. So when there was not a Starbucks within 20 miles of Blaine I was disappointed.

Until I found Woods Coffee. I was very happy with the service, the coffee, the food, and the atmosphere.

It was not a cookie cutter location. It had some style.

But the best thing was the staff who was very friendly and helpful. And the customers, who were working people in the shipping business mostly, were respectful and cool.

my wife keep telling me how much she liked this place. Finally went on a day they were open and it was great. the raw oysters were delicious, wish they had cocktail sauce, and the barbecued oysters were better.

They need a better of selection of beers, but overall great experience.

Ice cream with rich flavor and healthy servings. Love the thick milkshakes....nothing better than a mocha milkshake put together with chocolate ice cream, chocolate milk, two shots of expresso and topped with whip cream. Fresh berry shakes are also killers. Friendly and fast service with extremely fair prices.

We were on our way to Vancouver and decided to stop for lunch before crossing the border. We drove down the main street there, parked, started looking at menus and such. So we took one of the side roads and there was this cafe, and it was exactly what we were looking for. We had soup and sandwiches and it was perfect, not too much, not too little. Very friendly service. They have a nice deck to sit on if it's a nice day.

This family-owned restaraunt in Blaine is right across from the waterfront and about a par-5 distance south of the (Canadian) border. Incredible salsa with chips and don’t push away the Mexican cole slaw that is also included. The abodigas soup is excellent and the chicken broth for the tortilla soup makes this the best we’ve had anywhere. The other dishes we’ve had have all been excellent and the service is efficient and friendly. Treat yourself when returning home after a border crossing into Canada or as a special stop on your way down south from Canada. Being about a mile off I-5 it can’t be more convenient. Highly recommended!

Jack Niemann's Black Forest Steak House

Truly an outstandingly authentic restoration of the old bank in Blaine~~
Comfortable booths,
excellent lighting and acoustical management of sound transmission; fine design indeed.

We were a group of three, and were cheerful enough after ordering cocktails, only to became increasingly annoyed by a LONG delay of nearly 40 minutes for them to arrive.
After that, another painstaking period of time elapsed, which resulted in having to chase down a server to order~~!!
The entire meal was like 'Waiting for Godot' . . .

Food was decent enough, though tepid on arrival.
A 'relaxed' style of service is one view?
Sad to say, the steaks were less than superb; not worth such delays in service at all.

Parking is ample on the streets surrounding this corner building.

Might try it again, but for the drive, really prefer The Steak House at the Casino in Ferndale ~~!!

Friendly servers, generous servings of food. My husband and I shared a Patty Melt sandwich on rye, some side choices but for $1.00 additional you could get onion rings. Most places your lucky if you get 6 onion rings, this place gave us a platter full. We ate at 11 a.m. and were full until 6:30 in the evening. The service was fast. The restaurant is clean an airy. They offer a Sunday Brunch which we tried a year ago very plentiful and delicious. 11:30-2:00. Adults $14.00, Seniors $10.00. We like eating there when we cross the border. Lots of interesting shopping in the area as well.

Packers Bar & Grill

ocated on the waterfront at Semiahmoo Resort, Packers Oyster Bar is open daily for lunch and dinner plus Happy Hour, Late Night and Dessert offerings. No reservations required! The ever popular Semiahmoo dining staple for locals and guests has been transformed while maintaining its charm and casual feel. An expanded, open space is complemented by black walnut floors, a sprawling distressed wood bar, leather arm chairs, artisan-inspired bar stools and vibrant fabrics, and the wall of windows showcases a 180-degree view of Drayton Harbor. Packers' menus feature items including oysters on-the-half shell, burgers and fish and chips. Culinary hallmarks on the menus daily are the freshest, often changing products available locally.

We've stayed at Semiahmoo several times (lucky us), and each time the restaurants have undergone signficant changes. On our first trip, Packers had an amazing menu with lots of seafood options (fresh shrimp and crab salad, pen cove mussels). Next visit, salad not on the menu and sold out of mussels. This past visit, very few seafood options, and lots of fried food, which is not a fave of ours. If you're a vegetarian, your options are extremely limited. The restaruants at Semiahmoo seem to be looking to find their "groove." But, it's a hard crowd to cater to. Families with kids who are picky eaters mixed in with couples who are looking for "interesting" meals. The menu was limited and very light on seafood. However, the staff are AMAZING. Every single one we interacted with was friendly, professional and attentive - even when the place was crazy busy. Bravo to the staff. Oh, and the ice cream....to die for....
