Grand Hotel Saloon

Reviewed By Nancy K

Just came home from the worst meal I've ever had at the Grand. Not only was the halibut special overcooked to the point of cardboard, the quinoa was dry and dull as gravel and the broccolini limp as month-old lettuce. I sent the dinner back immediately, asked for the salmon as a replacement, five minutes later asked that it not be overcooked, but the rest of my party of 9 were done with their meals before I received my plate. I went to the kitchen to tell them to cancel my order completely, sat back down and a waitress immediately showed up with the food saying it had just come out. I declined the meal, and then another waitress came back with the same food and asked if I wanted it boxed up. I was so tired of the inefficiency (including not getting water refills, not having my wine order taken, not being told what the accompaniments were...), I just said fine, wanting them to go away.

At a fine restaurant, I would expect apologies for the service, the meal and the delay, and some consideration on the bill. No, indeed, we were charged full price for a meal I did not want, that I had rejected twice. And, we waited inordinately to place a dessert order, and again for our tabs. The waitress took only a few of the bills with payment at a time, coming back two more times to run a total of five credit cards. This on an evening when the staff was NOT slammed; there were many empty tables the entire time we were there.

The entire ordeal lasted almost three hours. It will be a cold day in hell before I waste my money at The Grand again.

Kind of a rustic little place in the little town of Big Timber. Passing through and had lunch. Some very nice local kids working behind the counter and lots of locals eating there. Had some kind of chicken/bacon sandwich that was really good. Lots of sandwiches and baked goods to choose from. Sandwich was about $7-$8. Be sure to walk down to the pharmacy and soda fountain and see the "wall of heros" - picts of town military service members going back to WWII to current.

Thirsty Turtle Burgers & BBQ

Our 1st time going to this restaurant. Unfortunately we did not even get to eat the food here. We had to wait 20 minutes before the waitress would even take our drink order. 20 minutes later...no drink...no waitress...so we finally left. Another waitress was taking other tables' orders but completely ignored us. Multiple tables who came after us were getting served by the other waitress but not us.

Put a bad taste in our mouth for this place.

The Timber Bar in Big Timber, Montana is a family friendly bar and grill that is known for it's amazing steaks, burgers and chicken. The Timber Bar locally sources all beef, pork and lamb. The Timber Bar supports the craft beer industry and features local and national beers.

I have been going here for lunch, drinks and an occasional dinner for 7-8 years. Among the best fried chicken you will find anywhere, at a decent price. Cold beer and a friendly atmosphere. It is my favorite bar in town, though my wife prefers the Thirsty Turtle. If you are in need of a good, casual meal and you are midway between Billings and Livingston/Bozeman in southwest MONTANA, I heartily recommend it.

We've eaten at this establishment on several occasions, and never had a bad meal. We used to get a fantastic chicken fried steak dinner years ago, driving over 80 miles just to eat here, but thing have changed over the years. I would say that the food and service now is just average. We'll eat here again if in the area, but no more 80+ mile drives just to dine here.

Iron Star Pizza

Reviewed By tgrier - Winona, Minnesota

Driving through Big Timber in mid-afternoon, decided to stop for lunch. Read any on-line reviews that seemed to rave about this place, so we gave it a try. One person served as hostess, waitress and cashier. It wasn't that busy, so she was able to keep up. We ordered sandwiches, rather than pizza. The chicken parmesan sandwich was fine, but I was expecting something amazing. My daughter had the Iron Star Grilled Cheese and she really liked it: three cheeses melted with avocado mayo and bacon crumbles.

Frosty Freez

Sounds like it's an ice cream bar, right? Well it's all that, but more. A 50's themed diner, complete with posters and memorabilia of Elvis, Marilyn, James Dean, and the rest, serves the best breakfast in town. Grey wainscoted walls topped with black and white striped wall paper, bright red and white checked curtains, and bright red enameled shelves crammed full of memorabilia. My favorite is the swivel-hipped Elvis clock. The food is typical diner fare, and the customers are almost all locals. Lots of friendly banter make this a delightful diner experience.
