The food was good, but nothing extraordinary. In my opinion, it is an overpriced restaurant. I do not plan to return.

Bonefish Grill

I went here for lunch today with friends to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is on out-building at South Hills Village and with the holidays the traffic was horrific. However, the restaurant had ample available parking and the ambiance was great with holiday music playing. They had a lunch menu and although this restaurant is expensive for dinner, the lunch items were reasonably priced. Couple that with the 10% AARP discount and lunch was very reasonable. We all had combinations of their lunch special, 1/2 chowder and salad or 1/2 chowder with 2 bang bang shrimp tacos. The chowder was really good, with a thick white sauce, corn and crab pieces. You could choose from either a Caesar salad or their house salad. I had the Caesar and it was just okay. My sister had the house salad and said it was really good. I tasted the dressing, which was a sweet vinagrette and she was right. My bang bang shrimp tacos were outstanding. I'd rate them a 3 on a scale of 10 for spicy/hot. The sauce was excellent and the soft taco shells were both soft and warm. I highly recommend them! As a side note, our server was really attentive and had a great personality. The kitchen gave me the wrong salad and he was very apologetic and corrected the problem immediately. He had several tables he was attending to so I really appreciated him taking such good care of us.

We almost only patronize brewpubs off-hours, in order to avoid noise and service issues that plague popular spots. Finally made the trek across two rivers to the South Hills of Pittsburgh for Sunday brunch: a summery frittata and Monte Cristo pizza (smoked Gouda, Canadian bacon, maple syrup), and $2-$3.25 5-oz beer tasters. My frittata was plenty tasty but had a slightly rubbery feel (guessing it was precooked and carved out of a bigger pan). Accompanying fruit was simple and fresh. Wish they had at least one porter or stout on tap, even in the summer, but Smoke & Oats Amber sufficed for groom's darker beer preference. Also wish there were a lower-cal salad option at brunch. Clean, spare, friendly, ample parking, multi-garage door back wall for nice-weather, "BEST BREWPUB BATHROOM EVER" award, kids' menu available even during brunch (just ask). Tables, high-tops, barrels with stools, and spacious outdoor patio seating available. Fenced-in side yard; family-friendly.

Al's Café is a great place for a reasonably priced lunch. You don't even have to be dressed up to much. If you are biking the Montour Trails you can even eat at the bar. I love the homey outdoorsy environment and the yummy Italian Wedding Soup. The lemon chicken meal with home made mashed potatoes hit the spot. They are reasonably priced.
