Kutaisi (Georgian: ქუთაისი [kʰutʰɑisi]; ancient names: Aea/Aia, Kotais, Kutatisi, Kutaïsi) is the legislative capital of Georgia, and its 3rd most populous city. Situated 221 kilometres (137 miles) west of Tbilisi, on the Rioni River, it is the capital of the western region of Imereti. Historically one of the major cities of Georgia, it served as the capital of the Kingdom of Georgia in the Middle Ages, and later as the capital of the Kingdom of Imereti. The Parliament of Georgia moved to Kutaisi in 2012, in an effort to both acknowledge the status of the city, and to decentralise the Georgian government.

Rooftop Restaurant (otherwise known as The Grill) is on the top floor of the Best Western Hotel. It is an attractive spot with views over the town.We stayed at the hotel overnight and were pleased with the comfortable and modern rooms. Breakfast downstairs was also good. However, dinner in the Rooftop Restaurant was poor. The lamb chops were tough ; the French fries were the best part of the meal! We could not feel relaxed as the waiters seemed in a hurry to get us away. This was despite the fact that we were the only customers.

Fabulous lobiani and delicious glass of a dry Georgian wine. Slightly more expensive then the Fou-Fou cafe down the street for the same glass of wine though Our Cafe also has a lovely ambience and decor. Also incredibly strong WiFi that allowed me to upload photos easily. Staff member speaks English and translated some menu items. Menu also in English.

Wine Bar . All Georgian wines in one place. Degustations. Great location in the heart of old Kutaisi.

There are two problems with this wine-bar-shop for me personally. Firstly it is not cheap, but of course that is their prerogative and yours to walk away. But you WILL find Georgian wines that are substantially cheaper, not very far away. The second problem is a trickier one. My friend and I simply did not like any of the wines they had on offer. Now that may be down to our new-world taste-buds, so I am not going to knock them on it. But we DID find Georgian wines we liked elsewhere. That aside it’s a cool little spot with a friendly barman-assistant who seems knowledgeable and will allow you to work your way through their selection by tasting, until you hopefully find something you like. So it’s really up to you if you find something you like and are willing to pay a premium. Great spot for people-watching while you sip though!

We visited the adjoining German Beer establishment twice with out noticing this smaller place The first impression was positive, the furniture and the deco is simply matter of taste. It was early afternoon and the weather was warm (second half of October). The service team was very quick and attentive as my host spoke Georgian and ordered all food (mostly Georgian dishes). The choice of wine didn't seem to be huge .For West Europian tourists the princess looked moderate but I doubt that the average citizen would agree with me.Aroud 39 Lari for a young average year and non famous winery too. The food was tasty and probably the portions had something to do with the local host. This skepticism has hindered the maximum 5 ratting . I have to come back to verify my suspension
