We visited the lovely town on the way to Barrea (another lovely location). It is a small restaurant that was totally empty when we entered it on a Saturday for lunch --later another two guests arrived. I am always wary of empty restaurant and started to worry, but the friendliness of the service put us immediately in a good mood. We have two small children and immediately offered to bring some toys and pencils for them. Then the food: the list in quite standard for the region, but it has excellent and also innovative ingredients. Thus traditional dishes that you can eat anywhere become truly exceptional! the 'antipasto' and the 'primi' are a collection of delicacies, portions are generous. We had the house wine, which was extremely inexpensive (I believe around 5 euros for half a litre!) and perfectly drinkable. If I have to find a problem it is the fact that we changed our itinerary and came back to Pettorano just to discover that in July they are for lunch only during the weekend.

We were looking for a snack and a glass of wine and the owner served us. He was so friendly and helpful, We enjoyed ourselves so much and enjoyed his company, we cam back for supper with family members who lived in the area (and who knew the owner!). The food is excellent. Wine also excellent. The owner really knows. the area and gets great ingredients.

I am a California USA traveler. Ok. SURPRISE! I only eat Italian local fare when traveling to Italy..... until now. What a wonderful find and surprise. Mostly Local foods. A lot of organically. Veggies cooked perfectly. Dishes are Mind-benders. With each dish I asked "how did they get that taste?" It was a perfect blend/compliment of tastes. I would expect this in San Francisco, or WashingtonDC and maybe Rome if I looked for it, but I'd never seek it out. But in Sulmona! Wow. I hope they keep working their magic in the kitchen. The ravioli pasta was thick and cooked al dente perfectly. The sauce was taken to a new level with a treat of coconut milk, something I will do from now on. The chicken with rice.... the chicken was hot AND moist and infused with the sauce, translated - perfect. What a treat. Thank you!
