This is located immediately next to reception in Best Western Kastell hotel. The receipt shows Best Western. But it's independent. Cash or card. No charging to room. Friendly, efficient staff. Fairly obvious they'd rather be socialising with their friends, many of whom seem to be hanging around in Juls Bar, wandering in and out of the sliding door, presumably to smoke, drafty every time they open it. Lots of hugging and whooping and noise. Not sure if they work at the hotel or bar but it was all very familiar and to be honest I felt I was intruding by asking for a beer. The food was strange but it does say Steak in the title. Steak, steak, steak or steak or burger. No fish. No pizza. A veggie burger option. Steak well cooked. A bit rare for medium but good. Small salad and kraut. Decent food and not bad price for a hotel. But then, it's not part of the hotel. Or is it. It's a bar, and restaurant. There's a cat. It's in behind the bar. It's in between the tables. Don't say aaah, a cute cat. I'm indifferent to cats but I don't want one under my chair and wandering behind the bar. It's not hygienic. Pic attached. Would put me off staying at this hotel.

Grilled Salmon and grilled Zander with generous portion of mixed vegetable were fresh and delicious. Salmon soup as well - not too creamy. Service initially professional, but not specifically welcoming; when told we were celebrating (elderly) mum's birthday, the Italian waiter from Sardinia was lovely and caring.Atmosphere is very "gemuetlich" in old building; silver service. We'll be back.

Aside from my mixed green salad, we chose items from the seasonal menu. Chestnut soup with polenta croutons, pumpkin risotto, and a pizza topped with bacon, onion, and creamed pumpkin. Everything was good, but the pizza stole the show. It was fantastic. The interior is fun, the waiter was attentive anf friendly, the wine list was short but excellent. Great choices even by the glass. If Iâm in Bad Wimpfen again, Iâll be back.
