Don’t judge a book by its cover- this restaurant has amazing food. We stayed in Choburna for a week and tried well reviewed restaurants in progreso, Chelem and chorburna- this one was our favorite and we returned several times. Our family of five has a practice to all order different dishes so we can sample the most- most the dishes were amazing! Our favorites were: fried fish, coconut shrimp, and these fried vegetable fritters (starts with c and can’t remember name). We also went fishing locally and caught our own fish that the restaurant was happy to fry up for us. Th owner also indicated he did tours for fishing and what not but we didn’t use him- he was very friendly and accommodating to my family. If we make it back to this region we will be back here!!!!

We were a group of 12 females on a cruise that stopped in Progreso. We decided not to book a formal excursion and instead go to the public beach. Walking along the beach we were asked by several restaurant owners to use their tables and umbrellas on the beach, and were told they would bring us drinks. The first waiter suggested we run a tab. The second man (arm in a cast) said we had to pay in cash. To avoid confusion, we decided to pay cash for everything. When it was time to return to the boat, we were presented with a bill for $180! The server denied that we had paid anything in cash!! We spoke to both servers at the same time (one represented himself to be the manager), and both denied we had paid cash! Luckily we had enough money to cover the bill, but only barely since we only took what we thought we might spend for food and souvenirs. BUT WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO US IF WE HADN'T HAD THE EXTRA CASH? Our group consisted of six adult females and six teenage girls. VERY SCARY! STAY AWAY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I couldn't find the name of this restaurant on Trip Advisor and had to request it be added. They may change the name routinely if word gets out about their way of doing business, so you may not find this name anywhere. My recollection is they were the only restaurant on the public beach with red umbrellas and they were next to a place called Buddy's (just read reviews that indicate similar problems there!). My advice is either book an excursion through Carnival - or stay on the boat.

We went with a group of friends and kids - and had a great time! The beach club is fabulous and the kids loved the pools and the ocean. The beach is small but is set up well. The waiters were very attentive and ensured we had what we needed. Food was excellent, beer was cold and both came quickly. Pool was clean. We will definitely be back.

I have visited this restaurant about 6 times, hoping that the next meal will be better than the previous, however have been disappointed each time. The only reason why I go to this restaurant is because of the Music bands upstairs and various expat activities. Now, when I visit this establishment, it is solely for the expat activities and music and I no longer order the food.Hi Ruth Hamilton, Thank you very much for take the time to write this, we will review our operational staff about your lunch or dinner experience. But we notice that you don´t give us any detail about whats wrong with our food. We have more than a 80 items on our menu and features an extensive range of all time favourites wich perfectly complements your preferred brew. And because you are a business owner here in Mexico, next time you consider to come to the music please feel free to talk with me (Ruben Mexican Owner) and we will try to do our best for change your mind. Best regards!.

Local Mexican fisherman's restaurant with fresh ceviche and the best pescado frito in Chelem. He will even take your fish that you catch and cook it for you for a few pesos. Fish, shrimp ceviche is fresh with right amount amount of lime flavor. Off main road it is typical mexican cocina with plastic chairs and tables but dont be scared, the food is awesome!

El Bull Pen Restaurant and Bar

El Bullpen is a wonderful restaurant run by Martin and Jill, who also help the community by hosting various events. They have an extensive menu, which includes fresh seafood but also chicken and beef options. My husband and I have tried most of the menu and although we have favorites we've never had a meal that wasn't delicious. Where the kitchen shines is in their daily specials, most notably their Friday night lobster tail (unfortunately we were so thrilled with our meal I only took a photo after eating most of it!) Our friends who've visited Chelem always ask when are we heading to Bullpen? Drinks and live music on some nights only add to our enjoyment when visiting El Bullpen.

We drove around and walked around trying to find a smaller, quieter spot to enjoy the beach where we could rent shade. We had given up and parked a ways down from the Malecon. We entered the beach at the colorful Progresso sign. We decided to get some lunch on the beach in the shade of the umbrellas at the tables. We used our very limited Spanish and one of the waiters spoke some English. Lunch was good and very filling. We had grilled "plancha" fish tacos instead of fried fish tacos and pollo asado along with an order of guacamole. With ordering drinks and food, you could use the beach beds and beach chairs. They nicely put up an umbrella for us to use by the beach chairs. My daughter enjoyed use of the pool. The staff were nice and helpful and the music was relaxed and not party dance music. Thanks for your coment we appreciate that ❤️
