Dartmoor Inn

This could be such a great pub as it is a fantastic spot & is a snuggly place with warm log fires. Poor choice of cider (nothing local) & if you like chips the food would be ok I guess. However, the steak & kidney pudding (which also came with chips) was awful, greasy & very stodgy & served with the worst peas I have ever eaten, nothing else but a mass of overcooked peas & no gravy. This was after nearly an hours wait. I also found the ladies toilet to have mouldy, grimy walls & one towel for all to use.We eat at lots of pubs on Dartmoor & this one needs to start competing or stop doing food in my opinion. On the plus side it's a good place to stop if you want a traditional old pub for a drink, maybe there is more choice of beer than cider. Most pubs on Dartmoor are very busy on Sunday lunchtime...this one isn't!

the burrator inn is truly a Jekyll and Hyde. a traditional pub with accomodation is possibly the best description. many good points. Staff attentive and polite. rooms functional and comfortable i had a twin room which was more than adequate with a really nice bathroom and very good shower although the tv remote didn't work (room 6) and the kettle lid fell off during pouring. I'm fact my colleagues kettle burst into flames so these need looking at. breakfast was nice and freshly cooked.minus points. the whole building looks tatty from the outside. the unmade car park general untidiness of the grounds and dirty Windows don't give a good impression. the wi fi was useless and in these days that can be a big thing.overall the Inn was very good value for money and if working in the area i would not discount it but it could be a LOT better with some attention to the general upkeep.Ouch !!! That hurt.....The positives of your review are gratefully received, the negatives duly noted. Firstly, we have checked the TV remote in ALL rooms to find each one working perfectly. Further to this I will not comment except to add that your remarks tend to indicate a 'devil may care attitude' which is certainly not the case. Just more ammunition to strengthen my belief that perhaps it is time to retire from this ever increasingly difficult, demanding and thankless vocation

Peter Tavy Inn

After checking in to our hotel in Tavistock we asked for dinner recommendations from our host. Given a few excellent options, we decided head to Peter Tavy Inn on hearing that it was a warm and cosy British Pub with generous servings of traditional pub food (despite it being a ten minute drive away through narrow laneways and dark corners). All part of the big adventure we have come to love in our 50 day journey in UK.We arrived to a welcoming, old style pub, with happy voices and tempting kitchen smells emerging. The low timber teams meant a bit of head ducking for my 6'2" husband as we were shown to our corner table in a fully booked restaurant. We had been told of the pub's reputation for the best steak and stilton pie so we could not resist ordering after entrees of chicken liver pate and smoked salmon using the freshest ingredients. The pie's hot method pastry was buttery and delicious and the meat tender and beautifully flavoursome. Each of us enjoyed an enormous piece of pie accompanied by a side dish of beautifully prepared vegetables and crispy potatoes. N!eedless to say we could not manage to even view the dessert menuAll in all a wonderful, warm and cosy evening in this delightful pub provided another happy memory for our book of travels.

This Inn is sat in the most beautiful countryside in the middle of Dartmoor. It was perfect for our walking holiday. Room and beds were very comfortable. We had our favourite table saved for us each evening which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was nicely cooked though I would have liked yogurt and fruit to be on offer ideally. The owners and staff were very friendly and we appreciated the biscuits and extra milks for our flask! All in all a great value and welcoming Inn.

I wrote a 5 * star review when the Wacky re-opened a few years back - describing the massive potential it had. It's emphatically delivered on every occasion I have visited since. Great drink selection, amazing food, and, perhaps, most importantly, brilliant service and customer care. The owners and staff are passionate about your personal experience within its 4 walls. Throw in the multiple BBQS, food and drink festivals and live music - and you have a pub that offers the quintessential English country pub experience!

I haven’t visited the Plume for sometime, I was disappointed. Camping in my opinion is pricey. The charge per person, as opposed to a tent pitch. They now serve breakfast which isn’t good value for money and I wouldn’t recommend.I ate in the pub and expected good pub grub and I was disappointed, the food wasn’t great. The prices across the board all seem to have gone up - food and drinks. I appreciate you have the monopoly of Princetown, but it didn’t deliver for the money you pay.

Rock Inn

We were staying in a nearby hotel and were out for a walk with the dog. We stopped in here for a drink. There is a restaurant and bar both of which looked nice and inviting. If we were here for longer we would definitely give the food a try. As it was we had some drinks and had a pleasant time sitting in the beer garden across the road. A nice girl came out and gave the dog a treat but didn’t seem interested in enforcing their stated “dogs on leads” policy. There were a couple of wee yappie mongrels running loose much to everyone’ annoyance but no one seemed to care. The drinks were on the pricey side which might explain why it was quiet on an otherwise busy with people, warm, sunny Saturday afternoon. Thanks for the review. Glad you stopped by and were able to enjoy our lovely garden on what has lately been a rare sunny afternoon. We do ask for dogs to be kept on leads in the garden and our drinks are very fairly priced we believe for location & quality. We hope you will stop by again if you are in the area.
