Our first night in Cornwall and this pub was across the street from our hotel. It was just what we were looking for. A Saturday night so the fireside bar area was hopping - would have been nice to be able to spend more time there. But we wanted to eat, so barman got the chef to come downstairs (!) and talk to us. We went up to eat and had excellent and unusual tapas and a nice chat with the chef.

We stopped hear for lunch. Lovley pub food ok but very expencive. Asked for no salad on two meals chabbacha (sorry about spelling)with chicken bacon and cheese, when i came had salad on both. Told the waitress who didnt look to happy to take it back to the kitchen. Then we had to wait for them to come back for 15 mins at which point they were cold. Other meal was jacket potatoe which was over cooked and wasnt very hot. Had 2pints of coke which cost £7.00 which i thought was very dear for a soft drink. It turned out to be a busy lunchtime service but only 2 staff working felt very sorry for them.

We set off with interest to the estuary, wondering what to expect. Down the narrow lane with some stops required at passing points. This place is indeed a hidden gem. Some good beers and very friendly staff. Great food served from a good sized menu, and pretty good value. And they can cater for large parties it seems - a wedding reception the previous day and gazebo still present. Check the tides and don't get stuck ! It was interesting to see the water gradually move in and overtop the road, at some speed aswell. It was a very pleasant afternoon / evening and I feel privileged by the experience.Hi Peter Thank you for visiting us and for writing this lovely review. We are really glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. We love the name of your review as you are quite right, it is an interesting drive down to the pub from the main road, but well worth it. The marquee is up in the garden throughout the summer, just incase British weather decides to be it's unpredictable self, however we do do the odd function in there. Your last comment about feeling privileged by the experience really made my day. It was a privilege to have you hear. We look forward to seeing you again soon.Kind regardsNick and The Crew

First of all I have to say this pub is beautifully set . It has an incredibly pretty garden and has lots of character . We went the first evening of our holiday for a meal . We were sat down all good so far and given menus . Another two couples turned up after us and were sat down . We were somewhat bemused when their order was taken before ours . Not a big problem but a little annoying . Finally our order was taken what arrived though wasn’t what we’d ordered, my husbands was correct however mine wasn’t . They had got our order muddled with the couple next to us . So my husbands meal and the wrong meal was taken away . About twenty minutes later we were given our meals they were passable but not what I’d maybe call amazing . My husbands looked like it had been sat for too long , nine I feel was rushed through . After our meal we ordered coffee two cappacinos , the waitress came to us five minutes later and asked was it two expressos you ordered , to which we replied no and two cappacinos arrived . A couple of nights later we decided to go again just for a coffee and my husband a beer . I ordered a cappacino , it was truly awful , completely undrinkable . I told the barman/ waiter and he said well our coffee is bitter , it wasn’t bitter it was like dishwater . He said I can take it off your bill , then he said oh did you pay cash and I said yes and he just didn’t do anything about it . I then went to the girl behind the bar and she did me another one which was marginally better . A night later we went again for drinks and a gentleman, was having to ask if they’d forgotten him . I think in all it is a lovely pub but maybe only for a drink as another reviewer has said . A little better organisation is needed I think maybe. Very pretty setting though and worth a visit.

Stayed in Lostwithiel and was recommended to visit for a Indian. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The cook catered for me individually which was lovely as I'd wanted something that wasn't on the menu. We were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious and tasty our food was. My partner had had a Madras which he said was very full of flavour but he'd of preferred it a little spicier. We would highly recommend here as it was also very reasonably priced too.

A welcoming local pub with lots of regular customers who, with the landlord, treat tourists with cheer and friendliness. Large portions of hearty food which is tasty and interesting. My friend and I shared a starter of pate of which there was plenty. My local meaty sausages were excellent with gravy, veggies and ginormous Yorkshire pudding. I couldn't eat all the mashed potato. I had a simple lemon sponge (my choice of no custard, ice cream etc) which was lovely: light and plenty of it !Would love to go again. My next visit, no doubt.

Earl of Chatham

I’ve never left a review before but felt compelled to do so after my visit to the Earl of Chatham. Following local advertisements for a quiz, I called to confirm and was advised that it would start at 9.00 on Tuesday. My partner and I booked a table for food beforehand as it was most convenient and had read positive reviews. However, we arrived shortly before our booking time and we weren’t led to the table but told from the bar more or less where to sit. Our table was directly next to the ladies toilet, the door of which didn’t close so for the duration of the meal we were forced to deal with noises and smells from the toilet. We and other patrons therefore stepped up to close the toilet door throughout the evening. We waited 15 minutes to receive a menu and a table who arrived after us received theirs first. The food was average despite being fairly expensive - £15 for Chinese style sea bass and chips. Also, we were given wine glasses rather than champagne flutes for our Prosecco. This also arrived 5 minutes after our dinner. On finishing our meal, we went to sit outside and waited for the quiz to begin. We asked several times about a start time and, from being assured it would begin at 9.20, we were eventually told it wasn’t on. We are staying in Lostwithiel for a holiday and were looking forward to a good evening out. I would tell anyone to give this pub a miss and visit The Globe Inn down the road instead.

Having visited the beautiful Golitha waterfalls, we tried this well rated pub/Inn in the picturesque Lostwithiel, one of our favourite places in Cornwall. The young lady who greeted us was so nice and friendly and we indulged in a Fowey G & T and for me a Tribute. It's a lovely pub with ample parking, a well looked after garden with pretty hanging baskets. My wife had the falafel burger with sweet potato fries and I had a cheese burger with fries. Both were served with yummy coleslaw and the meals were marvellous. Very well priced, excellent service throughout and a given that we will return soon.
