Unfortunately, I wanted to love this place but it definitely needs work. Was there with a party of six and service was ok, out of sprite, pizza was cold and it was just a weird experience. They did give us dessert on the house for the cold pizza, which was nice. Honestly, go for apps and sit at the bar area.

I have been making the rounds in commack trying to find a great pizza. I keep getting disappointed with the many places in the area. Tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. Perfectly cooked pizza with tasty sauce. Would recommend it.

Limited choices (and hardly a gourmet menu), but the food is actually rather good -- even tho the prices are very low.The sausage & pepper sandwich is very enjoyable, on a surprisingly-tasty bun. (I always add some chopped onions from the free fixings bar.)Turkey bake is another winner.(They used to have a brisket bun, but I no longer see that on the menu.)The hot dog is nothing to write home about, but it's OK and comes with a soda for less than two bucks!Pizza is passable (and cheap).Always ask for a little cup for water (which you can fill with carbonated water).

My husband, daughter and myself stopped by at 4:30 on a weekday two weeks ago, curious because we couldn’t find any information on the new Commack restaurant at the time. It was having a soft opening and had a preliminary one page menu. That was fine with us, we ordered two pizzas. Yes I know in a town filled with excellent pizza we ordered pizza and we were glad we did. The pizza is thin and light and delicious. We ordered two for three people and it was just right. The place sports the new popular warehouse ceiling and floors. A full bar, high bar tables in front, regular seating in back. It has outside seating and windows that open to the outside. The staff was great and the drinks very good. We split one dessert, we’re not dessert people, and so happy we did. We had the recommended chocolate cake..it was a bit of heaven. The prices are what I know consider to be Commack average. The only problem I can foresee is noise. Like all high warehouse ceilings it will need hanging baskets to absorb the noise once the place gets filled. It will get filled it the perfect place to meet for a meal or a drink or just a great cup of coffee and dessert. It’s handicap friendly but I don’t think it’s the kind of place for young children, although if you when early enough do able. We missed the old CIO Baby and lamented it’s leaving but Prato 850 erases all of that longing. We can’t wait to go back when they have their full menu..but I might go before just for the pizza.

Mario's Pizzeria

After dropping our son off at Stonybrook, we stayed at a local hotel in Commack right off I495. We looked at some different restaurants but wanted local Italian. It was a choice between Mario's and La Scala across the street. We thought Mario;s would be cheaper. I don't think so.We ordered chicken parm, veal parm, and a slice, plus sodas. Almost $50. The meat was good/very good, but spaghetti was average. The pizza was average, and we were looking forward to some authentic pizza. Soda was the new drink machine, so many options. No need for service other than food delivery to the table, so we left an average tip. We took the extra food back to the hotel for lunch the next day. Atmosphere was acceptable, but not great. Soccer on TVs, view of the parking lot, etc. Wallpaper was a nice Qbert 3D style.

Gino's of Commack

Reviewed By Ron T

It starts with very friendly staff. Barkeepers, hostess, management, and waitresses, all friendly, make you feel welcome. We had several dishes. Stracciatella - simple, very nice. Rice balls in vodka sauce - some sauce appears to be inside. Among the better I've had. Caesar salad - very good. Chicken Rollatini - I'd say the best I've had, Veal Marsala - tender veal, sauce exactly what I expect (yes, I really enjoyed it). We may have over ordered, so we had lots to take home - portions were very reasonable. We had recently gone to a family style Italian place in Smithtown - nice enough, but in terms of the food, more hype than flavor there. In comparison, this new Gino's - only open for a few days, was far better, and better priced - a place we will absolutely come back to. I'm not as into Italian food as my wife is - she typically has to drag me into an Italian place, but I'd be happy to come back to Gino's.A few days later, we picked up a pie and garlic knots. The pie - not fancy, not amazing, but very good (this was a plain pie), one you'll not go wrong with ordering. Only disappointment so far, probably a goof - the garlic knots had little of anything on them, such as garlic or oil or flavor. That needs fixing. I'm giving them 5 stars - not just because the food overall is so good, but because the attitude is so good. If both stay that way, this place will be very, very popular. And I'm saying this because today, early February 2019, they've been open less than a week, and they've made a very good impression on us.

There's nothing bad I can think of to say about this restaurant. The food is excellent, the portions fit the price, their pizza is great. Tuesday night is chicken special night. The chicken parm is perfect. Chicken Siciliano is too. Calamari is cooked perfectly. Try the champagne house dressing on your salad.

LA Scala Restaurant & Pizzeria

We have been going to this restaurant for over 40 years. They just changed ownership. The restaurant honored our reservation. Parking is available. Menu did not change and has great choices. Specials looked good. BUT. The quality of the food is not what it was. Prices on certain items went up. The service was good as before. The food did not have that special taste it used to have. Prices are not cheap but not overly high either. Portions are good size. Their pizza is still the best around.
