Me and my family have been coming here at least two times a week. All the food on their menu is great! They also cater and the food has the same quality as if you were eating at the restaurant. The Tacos al Pastor are the best we've had from all the Mexican restaurants in the South Gate and Downey area. They are comparable to tacos in Mexico City

Think this is just a fast food place? You'd be wrong because the newer menu items are better than the prior additions. Look for the coupons in the mail to double your dollar.

Tempo Cantina, a great new restaurant in Downey is a must! The food and drinks are amazing and the service is impeccable. We started with the Pork Belly appetizer which was prepared perfectly with Honey Siracha and Serrano Chile sauces for dipping that make it the perfect combination. The Bone Marrow tacos are creatively served in the bone but most importantly, the combination of tender meat, marrow and garnishes is rich and flavorful. If you can’t decide what type of taco to order, their is a menu item that includes 4 different types of tacos that are all very delicious. The same option is available for Margaritas! A Margarita Sampler! Our server Yesenia was competent, friendly and very engaging. She definitely added to the already positive experience. We will definitely be back!

Rubio's has the best fish tacos. This restaurant is always busy. It is usually clean, some times when it is busy, the tables don't get cleared right away. The service is generally fast, but there have been times when it seemed to take longer than usual to get food serviced. We have been here numerous times. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Nothing special about this place. I went on a Sunday morning. The place was almost empty. Our order was served promptly and the food was OK. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. Given the large variety of Mexican places in the area, I will likely not go back.

Acapulco Mexican Restaurant Y Cantina

Decent, pretty predictable Mexican chain restaurant. Service was fine. As is too often the case in a Mexican restaurant, I gorged on chips and salsa while waiting for the meal. I had the vegetable fajitas which were quite good, though the serving contraption took up a good part of the large table. Nice variety of veggies well grilled. The tortillas were rather small (though there was a decent supply of them) for assembling the fairly large vegetable pieces, so a little challenging to eat. I could have used a larger plate than the collection of sub-standard sized plates on the table, again, mostly for convenience and neatness. But overall, a good meal. Had a frozen margarita which was adequate - not great, not bad. I wouldn't go out of my way to return but at the same time, wouldn't hesitate if someone else wanted to go there.

Saturday and Sunday they have both menudo and pozole. Terrific! You can get the pozole with the meat still on the bones and the skin isn't greasy at all....the new word nowadays is unctious! Indeed! The menu is extensive and everything is truly authentic. Well worth the possible wait time. With only 9 tables, choose your time wisely. As far as the parking goes, it is in a strip mall...no need to stress over walking. It's just like any other market parking lot. No biggie.

Pepe's has been in business forever! And with good reason. We took our kids there when they were teens and they are almost to retirement now. They still ask us to pick up burritos when they are in town. The burritos are huge, made to order, and delicious. The carnitas burrito combination (hold the rice) are big enough to share, and the hot sauce is truly attention getting. The patio is usually cool and breezy so eating there is very pleasant.

Gloria's Cocina Mexicana Restaurant

Reviewed By Travel1763

While talking about good food and how most restaurants have raised their prices while serving less, Gloria's was recommended as having good food and serving up a nice portion for a fair price so we went the same day.The restaurant is quite dated with wobbly chairs that make you think they could fall apart at any time. We were seated right away with chips & salsa brought right away. The chips were hard and the salsa a little on the hot side which was disappointing. The server came and took our order, she was very pleasant and attentive. The carnitas were not at all fresh, in fact, you could tell they were reheated and the taste was so blah that the "hot" salsa that came with the chips made the carnitas easier to eat. The rice was better but a little on the salty side. The meat served as steak picado looked reheated and dry and unlike any other I've seen but Mom said it tasted good so you can try it if you will....Papa said the sope, tostada & enchilada were different but good so he was content and really hungry and ate all his food. The hand made tortillas are what sealed the deal for my parents so they'll be back, not me....The service was great, prices fair and portions big.
