The best bruschetta I ever had! Service was phenomenal. Family owned and operated. This place is a jewel. It is a hike to get up there probably 45 minutes, but is so worth-it. You have an amazing breathtaking view. You have two view points one through the restaurant and the second one next to the restaurant building. Best food, best service best view! Wear comfortable hiking shoes.

Speciality: rabbit in aromatic herbs known for meat dishes

Reviewed By 882ingridl

We had been visiting Ischia for a long weekend. Inspired by Alex Pollizzi’s ‘Italian Islands’ programme about Ischia, I decided to take my partner to Il Focolare. The restaurant looked a little bit different from what we remembered watching a programme. Once we sat at the table, I asked a waitress, who looked familiar to me, if they had any celebrities visits. She told us about Gerard Depardieu and Alex Pollizzi. So my doubt had disappeared and I knew we were in the right place. So we were served by the restaurant owner’s daughters. We found out that Ricardo’s 2 sons were working as the chefs in the kitchen. The antipasti which were complimentary to the main dish were delicious; our ordered Ischian wine was perfect. The cooked rabbit was tender, tasty and prepared with lots of love of Ricardo family. Ricardo spoke to the most of his customers during that evening. He came to us to say hello and we had a long chat. He shared his memories with us ....about his journey to London, his trip on a scooter from London to Bristol and many others. We had an absolutely brilliant time. P.S. taxi fare to get to the restaurant and back was absolutely rip off. I recommend to ask your hotel receptionist to book a taxi for you.

A local hangout that has excellent pizza but we were disappointed with the rest of the food. Nice people - looks like a family operation with Nona at the cash register. Parking is nonexistent so we parked in the port parking lot and walked. They don't really start serving until 7:30 but most locals come in at 8:00 or 8:30. Real wood fired brick oven and they serve a wonderful flat bread, hot out of the oven when you sit down to order.

And we all know that in normal circumstances Italians do not queue, so to find a line of locals waiting at the counter of this bakery must mean that the products are good.We saw all manner of Italian bread products and prepared sandwiches being purchased in front of us but can only personally comment on their Arancini, which we bought on a couple of occasions and although probably not at the excellence level of those from southern Sicily were still very very good.

This restaurant is beautifully set almost at sea level on the pier of Hotel Regina Isabella in Ischia. Beautiful setting (a bit hard to find the restaurant as well hidden and not indicated at all). The place is beautiful, but that's it. The menu (it's a starred restaurant) is very simple and not so appealing but very expensive. You get very very very small portions (but really extremely small) for an unreasonable price. Plus there is no smoking free area, so you end up in a highly expensive restaurant in an open air setting that highlights special flavors all accompanied by the smell of the cigarette of the neighboring table. How to turn a nice place into a disaster. They should really make a separation between smokers and non smokers as at the end of the day if you eat special food (that is really so limited) you need to taste it all not to taste it with the smoke of the adjoining table. We also waited for 40 minutes after the meal to get the bill (and had to ask for it twice as we were limited in time -our babysitter had to leave at a certain time). We had been to other starred restaurants in other countries, but this is really just scene: all dishes well presented but limited in substance. We never saw the chef nor the maître, so really the star is just given for the scene, the panorama and the pricesDear guest, the cuisine of our Chef Pasquale Palamaro is simple but particular in flavours. We are aware that we can't please everyone and maybe you expected some extreme dishes. So, we are sorry you didn't like our menu and spent an unpleasant dinner because of smokers.Warmest regards

La Pietra Slow

We walked over to this restaurant because the owner of our lovely B&B nearby had recommended it. We were escorted to a lovely table outside overlooking the azure sea. The night was simply magical. We ordered a mixed seafood appetizer and fiori di zucca, which were the best fiori di zucca I've ever had...and yes, I've had a lot of them. The marinated seafood was divine.I especially loved that there were no ashtrays on the table. I noticed an outdoor living-room area, far from the tables, which had ashtrays and I realized that THAT was their smoking section. After barely being able to breathe in Naples and Rome due to excessive cigarette smoke literally EVERYWHERE, it was wonderful to be able to eat without the disgusting smoke from other patrons. Brilliant move!I had been told by the locals to order the buccattini al coniglio, because that is a specialty in Ischia. I did and was not aware that the sauce that comes on the pasta does not contain any actual rabbit meat. It is merely the sauce that the rabbit is cooked in. I told the waiter about my disappointment even though the dish was still good and I was so amazed at what came next. They actually brought me a small plate of rabbit so that I could taste it. Honestly, this really made my night. They cared so much about my experience that they went out of their way to make it perfect. This is how restaurants should be. We also had a lovely dessert and walked home afterwards. The entire place is lovely both inside and out.We loved La Pietra Slow and would highly recommend it to everyone. Yes, it was a glorious experience indeed.Dear Mrs Glenys , thanks for your review!!! We are happy that your experience at restaurant " La Pietra" has been enjoyable. We hope to see you soon Thanks <3 Annamaria
