Okasama

A brilliant location, good sushi, all nearly ruined by bad service. It is not uncommon to wait 20 minutes to even be acknowledged. It's a shame because the sushi is good and the tempura is excellent, when it's available, and it's location by the ocean is very pleasant. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it unless you bring with you a good amount of patience.

I was waiting for my bus to San Pedro and looking out for something quick but delicious. Only problem: Almost every restaurant is closed on Sundays. Solution: The best Sushi I ate in Chile. Very well done with many different options as well as fresh ingredients. The costs were comparable low. Adding on to that the tea was made out of real ingredients and the taste very good.

We had a late Monday lunch and just squeezed in, it was really busy, perhaps due to the 2 for 1 offer on many rolls tags is 12-5pm Mon-Sat.Salmon Nigiri were expensive but when they can came were massive, at least 3 bites. There was me thinking each should be a mouthful?Yakitori Chicken was yummy but didn't come with rice so we asked for some which caused some confusion?!? It did appear and no charge so no complaints!Decent rolls, with a $50 bill for 6, very happy. If we lived next door it would be a regular stop.

Yoko Sea Food

Only ordered a couple dishes so have limited base for evaluation. The ceviche mixto, a standard dish on this continent, didn’t disappoint and was good. The Yoko Nikkei sushi was an attempt at nikkei cuisine. It had salmon (but the salmon was cooked, not raw), it used white rice (not sushi rice), had avocado, and had shrimp and salmon on top (again, cooked) then a pour-over of Leche de tigre (to complete the Latin aspect). There was a soy sauce from Taiwan that was used that was thicker and less flavorful than others I’ve had. The use of white rice and cooked fish resulted in less flavor also. I can see what the chef is trying to create but maybe he just can’t get the ingredients (i.e. sushi rice, raw fish, better soy sauce) in this part of the world to do it correctly (?). Not sure. The restaurant itself looks nice. There are paintings on the walls.Good service, our waiter was patient with my bad Spanish, he didn’t speak much English but somehow we managed. The mint lemonade and pisco sour were good drinks here.Muchas gracias, nos sirve mucho su opinión, seguiremos en la constante de mejorar más.

Jack Fish

We found this restaurant on the recommendation of a waitress who lives in La Serena when she was serving us in a more touristic waterfront restaurant. The restaurant is a small "hole in the wall" with awesome fish and seafood. Daniel, the owner is a unique and fun guy. He clearly has pride in the food preparation and restaurant. His Ceviche was amazing as were the prawns we had. We both wished we were staying another day to come back and have 2 or three orders of his other Ceviche's or some of the other dishes as the food was hat good. The sushi we had was not to my taste, solely because the texture of the roll and rice was much firmer than I am used to and as such it dodn't wow me the same as the other two dishes. Specifically, the centre of the California Roll had (I believe) Abalone along with the crab, which is kind of firm, tasteless and rubbery which in my opinion didn't add to the roll and somewhat overpowered the texture. This is purely a personal taste issue as opposed to quality, but both of us thought the same thing. We had a great experieince also. Daniel's approach is somewhat unique, and perhaps not for absolutely everyone. He is playing hard rock, with no appologies or other options. He speaks English well which was appreciated as our Spanish was terrible and it made for great conversation and easier ordering choices. We recommend this restaurant for anyone that likes small out of the way places that locals know about that you wouldn't normally find on your own. We had an awesome evening and experience. I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to request any music other than rock and roll or heavy metal as Daniel will just show you the door, but we do recommend it if you like amazing and unique seafood and fish!
