We visited Gorky Bar with our translator, must admit I wondered where we were going. You approach a local cafe and enter through it then up the stairs and you enter into a smart, clean and well presented restaurant. I had the beef which was not what I expected but very nice, well worth a visit.

I was very impressed in the quality of meals and interior. never thought that a small piece of Italy can be found here during a russian winter ouside. it is located slightly outside of a main street with a small entry logo so you should really know what you are looking for there)

This restaurant is, in general, good. The staff is very respectful and clean, the food is good. The bar is also pretty good with a wide selection of liquor.You would consider that to be part of one of the best (highly rated) hotels in Izhevsk that The Taste would be an exquisite experience and even though the food is good and the service is great I can confidently say you can get better/equal food quality at a different restaurant.Now... before you go thinking this is a bad restaurant, it is not. I had here my breakfast every day (part of my hotel stay) and I had every now and then dinner here as well. The food is pretty good, well made and the presentation is phenomenal; the price, on the other hand, is a key aspect of why I think you can get better food somewhere else.Let me give you some numbers so you are better informed. One of the nights I felt like having a little bit of soup, some fettuccini (carbonara), salad and my drink (can't remember if I had wine or beer). The food was really good and it was all worth around rub 1500. That is between US$20 to US$24 or Australian $32. Not too bad considering that would be pretty much what you would pay in Australia or the US for a meal. Now... the next day I went out with a few colleagues to eat in a good restaurant (as they told me "we will not take you to a cheap restaurant... No, let's have a good Russian experience!"), I had grilled salmon with salad, two glasses of wine, some appetisers (ham, cheese, bread with an amazing sauce and olives) and one glass of vodka; I paid rub 1400 (AU $30). This second restaurant was a considerably better experience and I ate so much in those 4 hours that I can not compare the two restaurants under the same classification even though, qualitywise, both places performed the same (amazingly good). You can get a better experience for the same money somewhere else.A huge factor (or the main driving factor) why I ate here every now and then is: my Russian is not that great AND the staff at the hotel, they all speak English (even a little). If you are travelling to Izhevsk and staying at this hotel, you might think the restaurant is amazing, and it is! But I would try to venture a bit more further away from the hotel (south towards the crocodile monument or walk along the Sovetskaya Street) and get ready to have some broken communication with Russians. The experience is going to be well worth it. It was one of a few restaurants which was opened till 1 am (not every day! Please check the opening hours), but it was simply great experience from the very beginning: - interior - new and weâll thought through with every tiny detail.- service - even that two of our first vine choices were out of stock (one by one), we were a 100% satisfied with the communication and final suggestion. It was really professional!- food - the many is relatively small, and mostly meat-oriented but everything we tried was made of fresh ingredients and cooked with care. And a long cocktail list for one who cares)
