We ended up going here for pizza after a long day hike, and even though we were extremely hungry, we couldn't bring ourselves to eat much of our order. We ordered the veggie pizza, and with its bland toppings and stale crust, we left disappointed.I can't speak for how the other food tastes here, but if you want pizza, skip this place.

I had dinner here recently, just before heading out on a trek of the Cordillera Huayhuash. The place was packed by the time I left and people were turning away at the door. They put out a great pizza. It is located near Huaraz's main plaza, easy to find.

As a conneseuir of pizza, I thought this was average at best. The bread crust was average, the pizza was top heavy on the cheese and the service was a bit inattentive.

16 of us came here on our last night in Huarez. We had our own little corner of the restaurant all to ourselves, which worked out well because we were a bit loud. The other diners in the restaurant had much more intimate quiet tables for their meals. We ordered a lot of pizza, all different varieties, and everything was delicious. One group member also had lomo saltado, and he also raved about it. The wait staff was very accommodating. Prices might have been a little higher than elsewhere, but the food was worth it. This restaurant is close to the plaza, so it's easy to access. I recommend it.

We stumbled across this place when looking for somewhere for a quick lunch. The menu del dia was perfect, with lots of different options to choose from and ranging from 11 soles up to 28. For that you got a veggie starter, a pasta soup and then whatever you’d chosen as main. Excellent food, great value. The place is spotless. Service is a little slow, but it’s a big hit with the locals - people queuing out the door for a midweek lunch.

Ordered the vegetable lasagna. The bowl that came looked like french onion soup. There was some eggplant and zucchini swimming in a very salty broth and covered with cheese. No tomatoes or other vegetables, no pasta. We would have complained but were unsure if that would have reflected poorly on the waiter. If I'd been served that in the States, I would have questioned it before I even tasted it. The bread was excellent. Saw a pizza delivered to another table, and it looked very good.

La Pizza del Abuelo

Reviewed By Marie T

I went to La Pizza del Abuelo because it was recommended to me by some tourists and had great reviews on TA. Honestly I don't get how this place gets such good reviews, the food was so disappointing. Why? Well first because the pizza dough is frozen, you can clearly see the waiter getting it out of the freezer. I'm not sure if they make their own though and then freeze it (why would you?) or if they just buy it from the super market, but clearly frozen dough is in no way comparable to fresh dough baked in a wood fired oven. Why people go on about how good the dough is is a complete mystery to me, these people I suppose have never eaten real, fresh pizza.Second, given that I like my pizza the Italian way I asked to have little cheese and more tomato sauce, because I know that the tendency in Peru is to put loads of cheese. Honestly I can't imagine what would have happened if I hadn't mentioned that, what was given to me was basically a pizza dough with a ton of cheese and no tomato sauce in sight! I know that the owner of this place is from Argentina and that they like their pizzas full of cheese there, but if someone makes a point of asking you little cheese and more tomato sauce it shouldn't be difficult to deliver, or so I wrongly thought. The pizza was in fact best described as hot, crusty bread with a ton of cheese, using the word pizza is not fair. And it cost S/35 soles!!!The pasta was no better. It was obvious straight away given the soggy appearance of it that it was frozen filled pasta bought from the local super market with fake parmesan cheese that tasted like cardboard. And it cost S/31 soles!!!The people running this place charge extraordinary large amounts of money for very poor quality ingredients. I don't understand how they can justify it.You can get much better, fresh pizza and pasta in Huaraz for less money, so my advise is to spend your money elsewhere. As far as I'm concerned Mi Comedia is the best pizza place in town, serving authentic Neapolitan pizzas and fresh pastas, Manka also serves amazing fresh pastas actually homemade.Service was fine but none of the 3 persons who attended us asked us at any point how our meal was, maybe because they knew the answer...The restaurant itself is very nice though, decorated with much thought and style and with a very cosy atmosphere as a result, but this would not justify spending such a high amount of money on such poor quality food. The attraction this place may have is with people who have a vegan and gluten free diet, as this place offers pizzas and pastas that caters to them, so I can see how it would be popular for these people, as nowhere else in town offers these options. But for people who can eat everything you will find much better value for money elsewhere.I originally did not want to put a negative review on TA, but then I thought that it is really not fair that this place is rated as the 8th best restaurant in Huaraz, when there are many other places in town who get out of their way to offer really amazing food with quality ingredients prepared by real chefs. This place to me seems to take advantage of its nice setting and central location to charge exorbitant prices for poor food, which I personally find highly unacceptable.
