Find out what International restaurants to try in Springfield. Springfield is perhaps best known as the birthplace of basketball and home of the Basketball Hall of Fame. (The story goes that local physical education teacher James Naismith invented the sport to fill the gaps between football and baseball seasons.) But this historic town on the shores of the Connecticut River is famous for a few other reasons and definitely worth a quick jaunt or weekend away. Springfield was the birthplace and home of beloved children's author and illustrator, Theodore Geisel, Dr. Seuss. In fact, the Zoo in Forest Park, a sure hit with the kids, is said to be the inspiration for many of his wild and wacky tales. Wander through the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, at the Quadrangle, for a look at the Cat in the Hat and Yertle the Turtle cast in bronze. The city served as a major arsenal during the Revolutionary War, a role that is commemorated at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, which displays an enormous collection of small pistols. History buffs will also enjoy the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, a tribute to the ordinary people of the region who, during various periods in time, did extraordinary things.

Honest Abe told me I cannot tell a lie. The food was good, staff was service oriented. The pricing got me down, the food is good, but not good enough for these menu prices. It was recommended by the staff at the Regency, with good reason.

Some friends and I attended a small baby shower for a friend. The staff was very helpful with the arrangements and the afternoon of the shower was a great experience for all in attendance. We ordered off the menu. I enjoyed the Cal's chopped salad with mixed greens, garbanzo beans, carrots, cucumbers, red onions, avocado, cranberries, hard boiled egg and feta cheese with a generous grilled chicken. Everything was fresh and delicious. Loved the dressing. We will always keep Cal's on out list of places to visit.

South End Market

Always on trend, the South End Market is MGM Springfield’s answer to casual dining.

If you are at MGM, then this is my favorite place to eat. I found it better than the high end restaurants of Cal Mare and Chandler's, AND at a fraction of the price. The Dan Dan noodles were fabulous. Spicy, flavorful, and filling enough for a meal. The lobster roll was one of the best that I have ever had. Fresh, great flavor, and packed with lobster. The Mongolian beef was my least favourite but it did have a really flavorful sauce even though it was a little dry and the rice was overly sticky. Plenty of choices here for everyone.
