"Ithaca is gorges" can be read on proud t-shirts across New York State, and there is definitely truth in advertising. Sitting on the shores of Cayuga Lake, the largest of the Finger Lakes, the hilly town of Ithaca is surrounded by dense forests, towering waterfalls, and many gorges. The natural beauty has a distinctly academic feel, as local universities have filled the woods with museums and education centers like The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, which features a 220 acre wildlife sanctuary.

Punjabi food at its best! After years of home cooked Indian meals from roommates followed years living in India; I can promise you this is the most authentic Indian restaurant you will find in Ithaca or anywhere in Upstate New York. No matter what you order it will be cooked fresh on the spot and it will not be cold, greasy, or salty like other restaurants. It's a great restaurant to sit back and relax during a date or business or casual dinner with friends. I've been many times when I was a student 20 years ago and now again! It never disappointed.

Indian food surfaced as ths top choice for trying local ethnic food in our first day visiting Ithaca. Many of the Indian restaurants had decent ratings. We ended up at New Delhi Diamond as they were the longest in business in Ithaca. We were one of the first ones on a Saturday. Took a table by the window to take in the sights of street and foot traffic in the area. Comfortably quiet at first but with time, turned into a bustling place as more and more customers came through. We took the lunch buffet which was priced under $10. Food was fresh and steaming hot. The nice thing about the buffet is you can try a little of each offering. And then have more of what you like. I liked a lot of the offerings....the rice, the curries, the condiments, the pudding, the meats, the breads. I dont think there was one thing I tried which I did not like. I had a good experience and many others will too. I can see why there have been in business for so many years.

I had lunch with a friend there last week, and the buffet offered a wider range of dishes than I've found with other Indian buffets in Ithaca. (There were also three kinds of halvah, so that may have had a positive influence on my review--I love the sweets!)It's also a little more upscale than the other restaurants, although the price points are similar. All the dishes were fresh and flavorful--but if you're looking for something spicy, you'll do better to order from the menu. (Which is also an option at lunch.)Decent selection of beers, and friendly service. If you're in Collegetown, this is a great spot for a single diner, a couple, or a small group.

We had a little trouble finding the place due to construction. It's a small unassuming restaurant that is family run and well worth trying. The L shaped dining room is small and contains around 10 tables with Indian art donning the walls. Raj (owner/host) and his Mom and Dad run the place. Raj is very personable and will explain anything you want to know. He is very friendly and will answer all your questions. He's very concerned about the food and wants to ensure that it's the best quality for his patrons. We had a lovely chat with him after our meal. Before we left the restaurant I snapped a photo of the restaurant, Raj, his parents, and my hubby. We had the Buffet. The food was really good. Best Indian I've had so far in Ithaca. The food had some spice to it, but nothing I found unpleasant. They serve Indian Rice Pudding that was very tasty. They also provide Chai Tea. It's really good too. Not overpowering and sweetened with honey! It was a great way to cap off our meal.Overall I'd say this is a fabulous place to enjoy a buffet meal. They also serve regular meals if you choose not to have the buffet. It was a most enjoyable experience and we will definitely go back!

Sangam has upgraded their buffet recently to include more condiments and they now have Pakora! (Veggies fried in chickpea batter. Really delicious. Especially the eggplant ones.) There is always Sambar and Dosa, Tandori Chicken and of course rice and naan. Then generally two vegetarian dishes and two meat dishes, mostly chicken but I have had Beef Vindaloo (which was the most tender, delicious beef I have ever had.)We eat here about once every other week. Get there early- the buffet is replenished often, but there can be quite a line, especially when the students are in town.
