Nice cozy restaurant. The menu of the day (Lunch) is quite innovative and usually on the delicious side. I have tasted some unique dished and soups in sommerhaus (although portions are on the smaller side). For those with weak heart, there is also a menu card which has some regular dishes.

So disappointed tonight, highly recommended this restaurant to our friends visiting from the US... got vinegar wine.... did not drink it—asked for a different wine and explained that this was a bad bottle... we we’re still charged full price for 3 glasses! They disagreed with us. Will not return.. very disappointed, despite decent food... definitely never have been the friendliest to Americans... but we overlooked because we liked the food... won’t be returning Dear customer,we are sorry for the inconvenience. But you have to understand, that the wine was not bad, it just wasn't your taste. The three glasses came from two different bottles. Either both of them are bad bottles or none. But as we tried the second bottle ourselves after your complaint, we can assure, that it wasn't a bad bottle. We never had any complaints regarding this wine. If you order wine, you can ask for a small sample before getting a whole glass. We happily bring you a sip of wine to taste, so that such things don't happen. I guess it is understandable that we can't take everything from the bill that someone dislikes as tastes are different.

Popped in for lunch after enjoying the weekend market. They have outdoor and indoor seating. I ordered the Eisbein pork Knuckle which came with a huge dollop of mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I enjoy my food as well as the beer.

I have to raise my rating. It just keeps getting better. The regular menu is quite good and they have a chalkboard they update with new specials on a regular basis. Right now there is a salmon and spinach pizza that is to die for. Verica and her family are very sweet and speak a number of languages. I'll cry when I move away in a couple of years.

A restaurant off the beaten path, but only a few minutes from the congested downtown area (parking on site). The menu is German, but the creative presentations and quality are well above average. Case in point -the Zanderfliet is three thick fish filets on sauerkraut with a potato cake atop of each with an excellent, mild sauce - baked. It may sound like an odd combination, but every bite melts in your mouth. The so-called Schnitzel is composed of two thin cut pork slices rolled and stuffed with cheeses and herds, then coated with a thin batter and baked. Presented with a white sauce and thin egg noodles. Outstanding! Every meal includes their unique salad bar with 10 or 12 various salads and sliced vegetables - cucumbers, lettuces, beets, carrots, slaw, cabbage salads, pine nuts and two different dressing for your choosing. The whole experience is excellent. Have eaten there three times in the past month and will be returning to try more of their menu. Just a tidbit higher then other local German restaurants, but not over-priced and well worth every Euro. Super, very friendly service. No English menus. Beware - Sundays all usually booked! Make a reservation. Tired of the same old German food - try Frohlich!

Looks like this place is listed 3 or 4 times. I'm adding my review to the iteration with the most reviews. I've only ordered red meat dishes here: rack of lamb, pepper-steak, and chateaubriand. They cook the meat to the perfect temperature. Never over done. Perfect three out of three. The service is good. The staff are very friendly and hard working.I was fortunate to visit in the summer, fantastic weather, outdoor seating. Can't ask for much more. The price is fair, not cheap, but did not feel overpriced at all either.Another review mentioned difficulty parking. One block south, 2 mins walking, there's a huge parking lot. Not sure how the other reviewer could have missed that. The only downside; annoying yanks on skype yelling across the ocean to the person. And popular with army guys in fatigues.

Close to downtown Kaiserslautern, it's below the stadium... but surrounded by trees and trails, the Bremerhof is a wonderful place to eat. Offers daily lunch specials, we ate off the regular menu. My husband had Munich goulash... I was tempted by the venison dishes .... but opted for pork strips with onions. Both came with side dishes. We'll be back here often... was already planning what to order before we left.

Gasthaus Zur Linde

If you like food, this is the place you need to find!! Zur Linde has NEVER prepared a bad meal for us. Whether you want fish, turkey, ostrich, or a really good steak, you will not be disappointed at Zur Linde, Schmalenberg, Germany. Now Schmalenberg is a very small hamlet, down curving country, forest roads but the food is worth it! This is a family owned German restaurant. Their customers (very loyal) are locals so they do not have an English menu and they speak very limited English. DO NOT let this deter you! Again, ALL the food is good and my husband complains I'm too picky!! Their salads are superb and we visit them often!

Just a little drive - less than 30 minutes - outside of Kaiserslautern - in the forest with lots of hiking paths right outside of the restaurant. Outstanding pork schnitzel and beautiful, fresh salads. Pricing is lower than in town. Some English on the menus and a bit of English spoken by wait staff - non-German speaking patrons will have no great challenges. Food is excellent here and prepared to order. This is not fast food. I will be eating here regularly since discovering this gem in the Pfalzwald forest. Highly recommended.
