Best French restaurants nearby. Discover the best French food in San Francisco. View Menus, Photos and Reviews for French restaurants near you.. Each of San Francisco's unique neighborhoods has its own collective personality shaped by its residents, topography and history. This diversity is one of the great hallmarks of the city, as well as its tradition for rebellion, and both make traversing San Francisco as a visitor an intriguing adventure that provides fresh discoveries for locals as well. While half of the city’s growth during the 19th century was due to the arrival of American immigrants, the balance was due to immigration from around the world. Today, the city's neighborhoods reflect this fact with their cosmopolitan flair and distinctive character.

This was a return visit to La Folie after about 15+ years since the last visit. The decor has been modernized and while not particularly evocative of a Parisian Restaurant, the decor is calm and inviting. The menu offers either a tasting option with wine paragons or a 3-4-5 course menu. The warm crab salad was delicious and the rack of lamb well cooked and tasty with a nice assortment of vegetables well presented. My wife enjoyed the Frogs Legs, Lobster Risotto and Rabbit although she felt the rabbit loin was a bit on the dry side.

Atelier Crenn

We enjoyed a lovely evening at Atelier Crenn. The setting is serene. The service impeccable. The tastes wonderful. The presentations beautiful. Every effort was made to avoid dietary restrictions and to acknowledge special occasions. Our first disappointment was finding that the menu was entirely fish based. This change happened soon after our gift certificate was purchased. Our second disappointment was finding that only one small piece of fish was used to create 12 courses of the same fish served 12 ways. We did leave hungry. At some point the artistry applied to the fish also became ridiculous. Foams and the use of liquid nitrogen, surrounding the dish in a basket of flowers, and so on. Nothing had the simplicity or elegance that you would find in Brittany. It just seemed contrived. We came expecting an experience like we had enjoyed at a 3* restaurant in Paris, but left disappointed on that score because the food was so manipulated that it became unrecognizable. This is a very nice restaurant in which to enjoy a special dining experience, but I would not go back.

We met up with our son while visiting SF at Zazie. The waiter was exceptional, just enough attention and very specific advice on our questions about the meal choices. The details are what set this place apart. I ordered lemonade and received a glass of ice about half full of freshly squeezed lemon juice and then a bottle of simple syrup to make the drink to my taste. It was awesome. I had the crab benedict and was so happy with it. The crab was fresh, plentiful and full of flavor and everything around it was done perfectly, with just enough seasoning as to not distract from the flavor of the crab. The other meals were just as well executed and the details well thought out. Definitely worth the wait which was minimal for the time we came.

My in-laws used to go here often. It was my first time. The decor is fun and well done. It looks like it fits the time of Joan of Arc. The service was friendly and quick. The menu changes daily and there are many choices. The made a nice vegetable plate for my vegetarian wife that was not on the menu. Everyone was served cream of vegetable soup. Fantastic San Francisco sour dough bread. Appetizer choices were salads or escargot which was excellent if you like such things. Entrees choices were sole, rabbit, two duck choices, rack of lamb (three ribs) and a couple of beef options. Everyone was very pleased with dinner. Moat of our party of 5 had the grand mariner shuffle for dessert which was excellent. The decor might be seen by some as over done but we found the entire experience charming.Dear David,Glad you found your "entire experience charming" at our restaurant Jeanne d'Arc.Thank you very much for a nice description of our menu and a generous five- starrating. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you....soon.Warm regards

Coq au Vin, Cassoulet, Onion soup -all are cooked perfectly. The service was also wonderful. The waiters are quite knowledgeable and are very on the spot without being intrusive. If you're looking for top-notch CLASSIC French food, this is the place for you. If you're looking for modern twists or the latest fafd, this is not the place. EVERYTHING is cooked and prepared according to classic French cooking. I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

Seating is tight but you get past it quickly, service is friendly and thoughtful and having the owner welcome you is a nice touch. Worth the trip from Downtown. It can get loud so if you have anything important to say you should save it for a break in the noise. Definitely go—it’s delicious!

Many have commented on the fixed price tasting menu and the wine pairing. From the commentary (and the tours taken by several in my group) the wine cellar is spectacular but it has a price range to match. You will be hard pushed to find anything <$100.The tasting menu is expensive and filled with gastronomic delights and plenty of unusual tastes, textures, and combinations. If you elect to try this restaurant you should try everything placed in front of you and get the details from each of the servers who bring the food.I enjoyed every course and was exposed to tastes and foods I would not ordinarily eat and had thought previously I did not like but found I did. Does it rise to ~$22 /course + tip before adding drinks? Hard to say and a very personal decision but if you decide it is you will not be disappointed in the flavors and experience
