Turnhout (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈtʏrnɦʌut]) is a Belgian municipality located in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises only the city of Turnhout proper. On January 1, 2015, Turnhout had a total population of 42,637. The total area is 56.06 km² which gives a population density of 835.5 inhabitants per km². The agglomeration, however, is much larger, accounting up to 81,473 inhabitants. Turnhout is known for its playing card industry, as it houses the head office of the world's largest manufacturer of playing cards, Cartamundi. Turnhout is also the capital of the administrative district with the same name. The Turnhout city council often promotes the city as "the capital of the Kempen area". This designation is entirely unofficial, since the Kempen area is far larger than the Turnhout district and does not form an administrative unit.

Croquettes are a part of the Flemish cuisine. Until now I found them over rated until I had a shrimp (garnalen) and a cheese (kaas) croquette at Becherelle. The handcut fries were excellent & fresh & cuppacinno's hot, not the so often warm I have had to become tolerant of. Croques / toasted sandwhiches were generous portions & prices quite reasonable. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Our waitress quickly picked up on the English accent & produced menus in English, explaining that her English wasn't too good. Other local restaurants can take a few lessons from here! http://www.becherelle.be/contact.php

Real lively spot, even on a "coldish" winter Tuesday night. I had a steak, which was "just" OK, nothing really special, although it came with a very interesting veggie mix.Staff is friendly...and fast.I had a nice dinner, but I can't really rate it as "very good"

My wife and I went to Cucina Marangon as it was near our hotel (Hostellerie Ter Driezen) and recommended by some local people we had met.For the most part, we enjoyed our evening meal however there were a number of disappointments. The good news it the food was reasonably well prepared from high quality ingredients with good presentation. We were not impressed with the very limited selection of wines by the glass (there was one red and one white), though the wine selection by the bottle seemed quite good but expensive in our experience. We were not pleased by our waiter’s insistence that we choose from a multiple choice menu as, when we arrived, we clearly asked if a la carte was available. Of the four evening meals in Turnhout, we ranked this one #3. We felt it was not good very good value for money though it was well prepared. Service was quite friendly but not as good as we had had the prior night at Marché 17.

I had the pleasure of eating here once last August 2013 and again this August 2014. Both times it was a pleasant, memorable experience. The menu features a good selection of breakfast and brunch items with a wonderful selection of teas. They also have a few delicious pastries. The restaurant has very pleasing decor and the servers are efficient and helpful. It is perfect before or after the flea market on Sunday or for an indulgent breakfast or a nice lunch. I would also have tea and a pastry here or a beer and a sandwich. I don't think you can do better in Turnhout!

Everything about Cachet de Cire sounded so much more beguiling than the cafes on the square. Ten minutes slow strolling took us to another world. A quiet garden lush with espaliered trees, a warm welcome and a serious menu. This is accomplished cooking. A tomato tart: pastry crisp yet buttery, sweet sundried tomatoes, an earthy black olive crumble, Parmesan ice cream. Firm white fish (ling) with slivers of artichoke sitting into a whey based foamy sauce spiked with parsley root - this is clever yet simple, full of flavour. And at about €60 per head including 2 glasses of wine, very well priced. My only regret? Not knowing about the 3 classic comfortable bedrooms tucked in upstairs, and returning instead to the standard hotel by the station instead. Another time. Dear Mrs. A.,Thank you so much for your wonderfull review, to use a flemish expression: our cheecks are blushing (blushing with pride). It is our daily goal to give our visitors a pleasant stay both at our restaurant and/or BnB and we are very pleased to read we succeeded. We look forward to welcome you in the future not only in our restaurant but also in one of our 3 comfortable rooms, all furnished with attention to detail. Went here for a business dinner with my work team. The restaurant is very formal as I was told by my Belgian colleagues. Prices are high. Menu was limited to just a few items so if you have a dietary restriction you might want to check ahead of time but we were able to get gluten free and vegetarian items easily. Was surprised that fine dining in Belgium serves fries with fillet pur (filet mignon). A very small soup and ham appetizer were brought out ahead of our meal. There was no salad on the menu and was told that this is not done in fine dining. However, some Americans at a table near us asked for one anyway and they were served one. One of my colleagues ordered the vegetable lasagna and the server assumed she was vegetarian and gave her a different appetizer than the ham the rest of us were served. The service was good and food wonderful as well. If you're looking for fine dining with great food and service, this is the place. You'll love the large chandelier in the front of the restaurant.

Atmosphere was very cosy and open.Food is refined and delicious. The dishes are small portions. We shared 3 starters and 3 wapas between two people and that was enough for us. Wines are really interesting (I usually don't drink wine)Love the way the menu regularly changes.Prices are very fair and service is really friendly. Not suitable for a low budget bite.Try to make a reservation or you may be disappointed.
