After a second afternoon in the scenic heath area (Heide) around Schneverdingen, I tried another restaurant: Schäferhof. It is located 2.5km from the railway station, directly at the popular Pietzmoor moorland area. The house is beautiful and welcoming - exactly what you expect from a countryside property. The dining room is truly cozy and intimate. Thumbs-up to the team (and in particular to Angelika) for the wonderful service: professional, friendly and smiling. The food was as good as the service. I started with smoked trout fillet served with horseradish - light and tasty starter. As main course I chose the local specialty "Heidschnucken-Braten" (roast Heidschnucke lamb) served with all the trimmings (red cabbage, mushroom). Generous and tasty portion; however the dish could have been served hotter. As dessert I had a honey parfait which was to die for! Given the beautiful and popular location, prices remain very moderate. Including drinks the bill amounted to 46â¬.

The place looked very nice, so we entered, even if the menu looked a bit heavy. The waitress was very helpfull and friendly and we found two very tasty vegetarian dishes. Portions were huge, but you enjoyed everything. We had a drink to start "Hugo", which was free, when you ordered a bottle of whine. A very good German white wine. For desert ice cream: huge portions again, delicious. The price/quality excellent. You eat well german food with modern touch in a nice atmosphere and have a friendly service. What more do you expect!

Die riesige Auswahl von Schnitzelgerichten ist schon beeindruckend. Am besten, man grenzt seinen Favoriten zunächst nach der Fleischsorte (Kalb, Schwein, Pute) und dann nach der Machart ein.Unsere Gruppe war mit allem sehr zufrieden. Es war alles lecker und der Service war sehr freundlich und umsichtig.

The staff of the hotel is very friendly and competent. The rooms are nice. The selection of meals is good and the breakfast is great. Whenever we will be in the neighborhood we will return. There is just no criticism.
