Too much of Leogang's mountain scene in recent years has been taken over by plastic modern ski restaurants staffed by surly Eastern European staff e.g. The Asitzbrau & Die Alte Schmeide. Thank goodness for the Stockalm which hasn't changed in all the years I've been coming skiing in Leogang. It's a cosy, traditional Austrian hut with plenty of space and big wooden benches. Prices are sensible and the Kaiserschmarren is outstanding. The staff are friendly and genuinely pleased to serve you. So long shall this place continue to do what it does so well. A perfect spot if it's a bad weather day too as there's loads of room to hang your wet gear.

Spent a few nights dining here with family. At €4 a meal for the children it was cheaper than buying food at the supermarket. The welcome was warm and inviting. The staff treated you as though you were long lost family. Childrens meals hit the spot and the Bolognese was the firm favourite! Adult meals were very pleasant, venison dish was superb! Overall cost of €35 for the family with a bottle of wine meant that this place delivered outstanding value for money!

Brother & sister team Hans-Jörg and Barbara run a fabulous establishment here with a world-renowned kitchen and one of the oldest restaurants in the entirety of Salzburgerland. The Kirchenwirt is nearly 700 years old but the rooms have been sympathetically and stylishly refurbished, with some classy touches in both the rooms and bathrooms. The simple sauna and spa area still remain from the time when parents Elisabeth & Hannes ran this Dorfswirt. Mum Elisabeth still helps out at breakfast which is absolutely top notch with not a wish going unanswered. Breakfast opens at 0730. Fresh omelettes and cappuccinos are no problem. Post skiing there's nothing better than a fresh draught beer in the cosy dining room Stube or hallway. Wine tasting is worth it too. Hans-Jörg has refurbed the ancient cellar and there's a huge selection of wines from within Austria & elsewhere. We tried the wine-pairing too where different wines were matched to the different courses. One night we went à la carte. The other night there was a big local company function in the restaurant so we partook of the same fixed menu at €50 per head. Excellent beef and our own small dining room meant we were well looked after. The awesome Leogang skiing is accessible by a regular ski bus in the mornings. When there's plenty of snow - as we had - you can ski all of the 5km back from the Asitz or Steinberg via a wondrous ski route across farmers fields and under the gaze of the pink Leoganger Steinbergen. Unbelievable!!

The main reason for the 2 stars isn’t the food, which is decent, but it is the fact that they allow people to smoke inside at the bar, which is quite close to the dining area. I think that is absolutely disgusting and had I known before coming in, I would not have come to begin with. Especially since there aren’t enough servers so it took forever for dinner to come and for us to attract the attention of the server to order desert. The food is ok, the schnitzel was a bit too greasy for my liking and the fries weren’t very crispy. All in all an ok meal but unfortunately as long as smoking inside is allowed there’s no way I’ll be back

Asitzbrau

The original hut "Asitzhutte" was built in 1930, when the region at the Asitz was used for skitouring. After the construction of the first cable car in the 1970's, the hut became a ski restaurant. In the year 2010, the Altenberger family purchased the hut

All ski-mountain huts in Austria and Germany seem to be similar - same sort of menu full of high-calorie ski-fuel, good friendly, quick & efficient service, immaculately clean including the toilets. Really - they're all fantastic. This one is a little bit special even then - a little bigger, better food, and beautiful slightly quirky fit-out (down to the gents toilets looking out on the ski slope - I hope it's one-way glass!).It was a bit more expensive than I expected though.

Are rather absurd ‘fusion’ concept - just look at the name. But thankfully they keep the star ingredients apart as god intended (have you ever seen a chicken swim? (Although I’ve seen a parrot fish...)). Sorry, where was I? Yes, superb grilled chicken, succulent meat which tasted of chicken (rare these days), and tasty crispy skin, just the right side of too salty. As I said to a friend, I cannot recall ever eating a better one. Served naked (the chicken) along with fresh homemade bread. And all housed in a stunning building (think ‘design by James Bond villan’), and jaw dropping views.

Respect to people working at these alms, because it gets really crowded at peak times. It's suprising that the food is of so good quality. My only problem was the hectic and vibrant atmosphere - I am not prepared for the "waka waka" (too much noise) in the alps, though I have to say this place has an atmosphere. Anyway, keep up the good service.

I visited this spot about 15 years ago and was delighted by its novelty & authenticity. The owner even danced on the beams above our table. On returning with a group of friends, it's been turned into a monstrous, themed restaurant that's staffed by surly non-Austrians with no charm or expertise. Its been over-developed and any mountain hut charm has been obliterated. It's now targeted at younger folk who think a hot slab 'table BBQ' is something classy. We sat upstairs despite booking maybe three months prior for a prime spot but we'd been sacrificed for a bigger group downstairs. As the evening wore on, the smell and fat and fumes from the cooking below shot straight upstairs to the point where we were choking, our eyes stinging and our clothes coated in a thin emulsion of beef & pork fat. We were forced to vacate our table and eat our desserts outside. Not a word of an apology and not a sign of a reduced bill. This place is a complete and utter rip off and so un-Austrian it's embarrassing.
