German sausage in the mountains of Japan! Who would have thought! With less than an hour for lunch our tour group spread out about the town looking for food. The bakery was immensely popular and the time to get our food exceeded our hours limit. Our tour guide was eating at the ham and sausage restaurant. So we joined her. The service was fast and the sausage sandwich was good. Not classic Japanese food. Who cares. Later we were served a French dinner at our hotel. So what is classic Japanese food?

beautiful, quaint restaurant with a wonderful staff and exceptional food. Was a nice place to eat after taking a boat across Lake Ashinoko with breathtaking views. We were suppose to take the tram up the mountain however, there has been some volcanic activity and it was closed. Disappointed, yes but would rather be safe.

I had a autumn luch course for 2500 yen. The food was excellent, waiters serve water at the right time and interior is cute. If you are stay around this french restaurant, I strongly recommend it for lunch. There's no need to enter the little prince museum.

Beautifully presented food, there is real care in how the food is served and presented. It is a collection of declicately prepared mains in set formats which are brilliant as they give you a good selection of dishes to accompany your main e.g. fish . My choice was in the stone hot pot served at the table to give a real sense of occassion. Reasonably priced and charming staff.

We were staying at the Fujiya so we decided to eat in the restaurant on one evening. We had booked with reception so were shown to the table immediately. We loved the style and ambience of the restaurant. For starters we chose the duck confit and the starter medley. The duck was flavoursome but usually confit is very well cooked and comes off the bone easily with crispy skin but this didn't and it was a bit of a fight to eat it (I would have picked it up if I wasn't in such a refined place). My husband's medley of starters was beautifully presented and they all tasted fine. For mains I had the beef stew which was rich and tasty but there was quite a lot of fat. There were noddles in the dish so the rice I ordered with it was unecessary, so I wish that the menu had mentioned the noodles. My husband's dish of seafood in a creamy sauce was nice but I tasted a scallop and it was overcooked. I was impressed with the glass of red wine I had. The service was pleasant throughout but we had to keep asking for water. We wanted to enjoy the meal more. We certainly didn't come to Japan expecting to find good french food, however given the prices charged I thought that the food should have been faultless. We loved the hotel but would not eat in the restaurant if we stayed again as we feel that it was overpriced for the quality. What a shame.

We came here one rainy and misty evening add we decided it was unsafe to drive through the fog in the evening. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. The service was attentive and very accommodating towards the toddlers in our group. The pasta was cooked very well and the pizza with smoked cheese was delicious! Try the Hakone beer whilst your are here too!
