Ordered 3 dishes. All had good flavors especially the chicken flavored with red fermented tofu. The other dishes were the asparagus with fungus and pork hock appetizer. More barbecue items than other restaurants. Visited on a Thursday evening, not crowded and service was prompt.

We are grateful to our server, âCarol,â who patiently led us through the process of selecting ingredients for our hot pot, a first-time experience for us. The end result was a delicious mélange of seafood and dumplings and vegetables in two scrumptious broths (we picked Szechuan and fish). Such a fun dining experience! We were so glad to find an authentic Chinese experience in such a welcoming atmosphere. Would love to come back anytime.

Really nothing that I can say wow. Adored by local people asians love it so much soups and liquid dishes that I am not big fan of. For plate of noodles and chicken on bbq I paid 28$ so it is not a cheap at all. Taste was just ok. Nothing special and really not to go back.

I called the restaurant at 10:48 AM on Dec 18 and wanted to make a reservation for Friday's dinner. The woman receptionist was busy to assign the tables. She asked me to wait. Then after 2 min 20 sec, I told her I wanted a reservation. She could't let me to finish my sentence and yelled "too many people". She said," You go to other restaurant" very rudely. OMG! The first time I ever met a receptionist like her.I have been there many times. Food is better than some restaurants. Service is so-so.

Nice new restaurant. Very busy and you might need to get a reservation. They have the reputation of seating Chinese patrons first. Well known for dumplings, but has a great menu with loads of variety. We had pork and some seafood dumplings, beef and greens, Shanghai noodles, fried pork.... it was all good. Service was barely civil, but the food was good.

A big sprawling place in a strip mall. Bustling and busy it is well attended by the local residents. The dim sum is plentiful and varied. Servers are ever present with all the usual offerings but some special items as well. Something for everyone.Fast, fast service in and out.

The Chinese mentality is at times embarrassing. We arrived promptly at 10:25 AM for dim sum (the restaurant opens at 10:30 AM although the doors were open) and we were ignored by reception until 10:32 AM. A queue was beginning to form behind us however a male patron merely walked past the queue and seated himself at what was apparently his favorite table. While enjoying our dim sum our server insisted upon continually relocating the dim sum selection sheet in an intrusive position upon the table and when I kept moving the selection sheet to the far side of the table she mumbled how discontented she was because because I found her placement of the selection sheet intrusive. In terms of the food the dim sum items were comparable to other dim sum restaurants within metro Vancouver.

The recent hit-parade I was looking at in Tripadvisor has Kirin as #18 in Richmond, and Seaport (opposite the River Rock Casino) as #34, but I'd respectfully suggest the rankings should be reversed. Kirin has the snappy service and well-heeled clientele (is there anything out there in the parking lot that isn't a Merc or a BMW), but the Sea Port has consistent value for the price and practice dealing with customers who know what dimsum should be. We have been to Kirin a few times. I might just note that the dungeoness crab can be had for half the price in Seattle -- but let's not quibble. So the "a bit pricey" comment is not incorrect. We had some standard southern Chinese dishes in Kirin the other night (for our wedding anniversary in fact) and they were good. As I have noted, the service is first-rate. Bon appetit!

Best with a group so you can sample a variety of dishes. Staff are attentive. Glassed kitchen area where you can watch food preparation. 530 to 830 place fills quickly so reservations recommended for Thuraday - Sunday. Tuesday/Wednesday small groups easily accommodated.
