Although Himmels Pagoda is about a 45 minute drive outside of Berlin, it seems it attracts local Berliners as well as tourists. We were taken there by a relative who lives in Berlin because he thought we would enjoy it. Reservations are a must; the restaurant is always busy. From what we were told, everything in the restaurant was brought from China to preserve the integrity of the very impressive and very large physical structure. (Have your cameras ready.) Everyone in our group ordered something different from an enormous menu of Asian food. (No one ordered the buffet so I cannot comment on it.) Our food was generally very good with the exception of one meal which someone in our party described as "just OK." The real "draw" of the restaurant is the architecture and the very large menu. I am a vegetarian and had no trouble finding several appropriate meals to choose from. A trip to this restaurant is for the experience of seeing it and saying you ate there.

FAZIT:Berlin ist immer eine Reise Wert und dieses Restaurant ist ebenfalls einen Wiederbesuch wert. Wir werden wiederkommen.Lage/Ambiente:Das Lokal liegt im Stadtteil Hermsdorf und ist gut per Bus (Haltestelle Hermsdorfer Damm/ Martin-Luther-Str. - direkt vor dem Restaurant) oder mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Parkplätze gibt es an der StraÃe. Sitzplätze gibt es auch drauÃen, durch eine Tuja-/ Lebensbaum-Hecke von der StraÃe getrennt. Je nach Tageszeit kann es durch den StraÃenverkehr recht laut sein, aber gegen Abend legt sich das dann. Drinnen sieht es, für mein Gefühl, wie in jedem anderen chin. Restaurants auch aus, da ist nichts besonderes.Essen/Service:Angeboten wird ein (überschaubares) Buffet, aber natürlich auch A-la-Carte. Da wir das Buffet für nicht besonders "aufregend" hielten (im Vergleich zu anderen chines./ mongolischen Restaurants), entschieden wir uns für ein Gericht von der Karte. Schon nach wenigen Minuten hatten wir unsere Getränke und das Stövchen für das Essen inklusive vorgewärmter Teller. Alles ging recht zügig, der Service war sehr aufmerksam und alle sprachen sehr gut Deutsch. Zum Schluss gab es noch einen Pflaumenwein, bevor wir die letzte Reiseetappe des Tages antraten.Preis/Leistung:Hier ist alles in Ordnung, das Verhältnis passt, die Portionen, die Qualität und der Preis passen gut zusammen.

We spent two weeks in Berlin in July/August. This restaurant is just outside Hermsdorf s-bahn. We dined here in the evening on three occasions as a party of twelve. The service was great and it was not a problem catering for 12 people with no reservation. The food (and wine) was great, there was more than we could eat and everyone enjoyed it. It was much cheaper than a similar restaurant in Ireland, costing about £8 per person including drinks (beers, wine and soft drinks). Would definitely recommend it if you're in the area.
