Loulou Flammes

Loulou Flammes is a casual restaurant right on the beach at Le Coin in Carbet, adjacent to the better-known Petitbonum. The menu primarily offers "flammes", which are an Alsatian specialty similar to flatbreads or very thin-crusted pizzas. We ate here (or got carryout) about 3 times over the course of a week, mainly because it was open more or less continuously and was a convenient 5-minute walk from our apartment. Positives: The flammes are quite good, with an interesting range of topping options (everything from ham and cheese to vegetables to a variety of seafoods). They're all cooked to order and come out crispy and flavorful. Prices are reasonable and there's a great view of the beach and Caribbean sea from just about any table. Super casual - about half the tables and chairs are right in the sand. Great for kids, who can play on the beach while waiting. A nice change from the typical seafood-heavy menu at many other beach restaurants. Offers carryout service. Cons: Incredibly slow table service. Servers in absolutely no rush at all, and not particularly friendly. Waited for at least 20 minutes just to get a menu (at a time when most tables were empty) and for close to an hour to get the food (just flammes, which couldn't possibly have taken long to make). Though the menu lists a variety of sweet and savory crepes and croque-monsieurs (grilled cheese sandwiches), we were never able to order them - every time we tried, we were told that the cook was only doing flammes that day. Don't go out of your way to go here - but if you're in Le Carbet anyway, and you're looking for carryout OR you are in no rush at all, it does have decent food and it's kid-friendly aside from the wait.

This was the only restaurant we could go to without reservations. I was afraid that would mean it was not great but we were pleasently surprised. The food was good - salads, burgers or seafood (a little pricey at 21-26 euros). The drinks were interesting and fun but the best tip is to go around 3pm and they have a happy hour on the chairs in the front. You can rent the beach loungers for 5 euro each which includes an umbrella, access to their shower and bathroom and beachside service for homemade icecream and lovely rose wine. We stayed until sunset and it was gorgeous!!

Shimmering blue waves rolling in, my Toes in the sand, icy cold beer, and deliciously fresh Bolonos on my plate! . This is what we came to Martinique for!! Highly recommended!!! My husband was happy with his Columbo Chicken stew. We wandered the empty beach at Le Carbet for quite a ways before we stumbled on Kay Jacko . We passed the broken down remnants of several deserted beach bars, not an appealing area. The beach is a salt and pepper mixture of black, grey, and white sand. There are lovely rolling waves, but it drops off quickly ,so you are in shallow water... or DEEP water.

Le Petibonum

We wandered into Le Petibonum after a booking fell through at a different nearby restaurant--what a happy accident! We did not have a reservation but the staff quickly seated us and served us drinks. The menu was on a large chalk board and the owner/manager took the time to explain every dish in English and give us recommendations so that we could sample the flavors of the island. We began with a sampler appetizer that had several different fish pâtés, all of which were exceptional. We then shared two main dishes--the first was a stewed beef in a tomato sauce accompanied by a loaded baked potato and rice, the second was the real jewel--langoustines in a vanilla cream sauce. If you have the chance, try this dish! It's unlike anything I've ever had and was so delicious. Staff were attentive and friendly and the restaurant was right on the beach. Give it a try if you're in Le Carbet!

We took others' recommendation to have a reservation, and were glad we did. Before 8 pm, the restaurant was nearly full, and it's a large place. The burger I had was huge and prepared nicely. It comes with several strips of delicious bacon and a fried egg! My husband's starter of tuna tartare was good, as was his grilled fish (entire - including head). Service was attentive, and they spoke some English.

Second year in a row 1643 delivered our best meal on the island. The setting is sublime, like a botanical garden. Service is impeccable and friendly as can be. Was Wife’s birthday so I stopped by the day before to make a reservation. We started with a salad of tomato and Chèvre with a surprising cup of delicious ice cream. I had the entrecôte (steak) and Donna had the salmon. Both superb. The day before I had asked if they had cake for the birthday and the proprietor said no, but then she said maybe. The cake came out after dinner and was a love surprise for both of us (although that meant no creme brûlée for me). Don’t miss this exquisite experience. Merci pour votre avis et votre recommandation, cela a été un plaisir de vous accueillir pour la seconde fois et nous sommes très contents de faire parti de vos bons souvenirs de vacances. Meilleurs voeux pour la nouvelle année !

Built in 1658 Habitation Ceron is a former sugar refinery. From Le Precheur you reach it after a few kilometers down the narrow coastal road. It's situated in an exceptional landscape of North-Carribean Martinique. To-day this estate preserves biodiversity and restores its old stone buildings. I started my stay by a pleasant walk along a torrent in the dense tropical forest surrounding the Habitation. I could see a wide range of plants and trees, especially a huge and striking zamana. After my walk I stopped for lunch in the restaurant located under a carbet in the shade of trees by the river. I received a lukewarm welcome that I forgot instantly by sipping a Planter's Punch and enjoying the exceptional position. Service was helpful and I really appreciated the refined fusion cuisine with Creole inspiration and use of local herbs and flowers. As appetizers I had stuffed piments then lobster ravioli with pan-seared banana and foie gras emulsion. Delicious. I ordered a glass of Chile white wine. As entrée I ate local crayfish a la plancha with zucchini and crispy poultry. Subtle and original. Café gourmand with chocolate cake, mango sorbet and lemon pie was also fine. In short a tasty meal in an amazing spot. Expensive but that was worth it.
