So, this is a review of the newly opened Desmond's in Orange Beach. When we drove up,there was not a vehicle in the parking lot. We almost left, but I'm so glad we didn't. The word isn't out yet, but look out when it is! The food is phenomenal . The restaurant is very clean and the staff is so friendly! I highly recommend it!

It's half Dominican, half Puerto Rican, and all pretty good. My party split the Con To' appetizer which has Dominican salami (fried), cheese (fried), pork chunks (fried) and chicken (fried), with plantains and a house dipping sauce. The cheese and salami were my favorites, although none of it was bad. This is also the only place I've had plantains that I didn't hate them. They actually have flavor here, instead of tasting like cardboard chips like I've had at Cuban restaurants in years past. For dinner two of my companions got the Carne Frita, which turned out to be the same marinated and cubed fried pork that was on the appetizer. I wisely chose a Churrasco, which is a skirt steak cooked with peppers. The server said it might be a bit on the touch side but it was actually the tenderest skirt steak I have likely ever eaten. All entrees are served with a side, usually rice, beans, or mangu. I had the rice and pigeon peas (rice con gandules) and it was a tasty side, whereas the white rice was... well it was white rice. The only real complaint any of us had about our meal is drinks are either tropical juices (which I cannot drinks) made in house or canned sodas with no free refills. Typical southerner than I am, I'd have preferred unlimited sweet tea. It's a tiny place, and located in a nondescript strip of shops south of the Foley YMCA. Easy to miss, but worth seeking out if you're tired of the same old American-Mexican at the local "Mexican" places.

Looking for a place to eat on a holiday weekend in Orange Beach without a huge wait is hard. We stumbled on this restaurant via Trip Advisor. The bar drink was fabulous (but only had one because the sever never asked again if I needed another) but the food was average. The server was doing everything: host, bartender and waiter for the entire restaurant, we only saw one other server. So I am sure with more staff our experience could have been better.
